Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park The Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park has been serving the community since 1960. Everyone is welcome. No invitation is needed to attend a meeting.

Join us for our weekly lunch meeting every Thursday at Noon at Olive Garden located at 6700 U.S. 19 N, Pinellas Park, FL 33781. We find that being a member of Kiwanis is one way we can help keep Pinellas Park one of the best places to live. Whether you’re raising a family or retired, The Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park is a great way to stay active, give back to your community and make new contacts.

We conduct a variety of events, projects and fundraisers to help support initiatives that benefit the children of our community in conjunction with Kiwanis, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time since 1960. We meet for lunch every Thursday at noon and host a monthly social on the third Wednesday of each month. We hope you will enjoy our hospitality and learn about our many service projects.

Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park – Friends of TB Wildlife Refuges

On Thursday, August 27, we welcomed Patrick Mundus, President of The Friends of the Tampa Bay National Wildlife Refuges.

Patrick shared a presentation titled “The Remarkable Refuges of Tampa Bay”.

Some highlights about national Wildlife Refuges are:
• Land for Wildlife – Managed by US Fish & Wildlife Service
• A lot of it – 150 million acres across the country
• Around since 1903 – Refuge system was first established in 1903, the first of its kind in the world
• 570 Refuges Across the nation, 29 in Florida
• Key locations in Tampa Bay are, Pinellas NWR, Egmont Key, & Passage Key
• Why Protect Mangroves (found only in Florida & Texas)
The Mission for Friends of the Tampa Bay NWRs is:
• Promote conservation, awareness, and appreciation of the Refuge Complex
• Provide assistance to the mission & programs of the USFWS

🎩☕💙 What a truly magical "Unbirthday" celebration! 💙☕

The Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park was honored to be part of the Mad Hatter Tea Party, an unforgettable "Unbirthday" party that brought smiles, laughter, and joy to 300 underserved foster children here in Pinellas County.

A heartfelt thank you to Kiwanis Club of Sunshine City for leading this incredible Division 13 service project and to all of the Kiwanis volunteers who helped make the day so special. From the whimsical decorations and fun activities to the excitement on the children's faces, it was a beautiful reminder of why we serve.

Seeing so many children experience a day filled with love, laughter, and a little bit of Wonderland magic made every moment worthwhile.

We are proud to have been a small part of such a meaningful event and grateful to stand alongside our fellow Kiwanians as we continue changing the world—one child, one community, and one act of kindness at a time.

Together, we truly showed what Kiwanis is all about.💙💛

Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park – Lighthouse of Pinellas

On Thursday, July 16, we welcomed Danielle Johnson, Youth Program Manager at Lighthouse of Pinellas, and Sherry Yagovane, Director of Development for the Lighthouse of Pinellas.

Danielle provided an update on youth services, where visually impaired youth from birth to high school graduation are provided with a range of age-appropriate services.

Their flyer talks about youth services in the following categories:
• Early Intervention Program – Ages birth to 5
• Children’s Program – Ages 6 – 13
• Transition Program – Ages 14 to high-school graduation

Sherry Yagovane shared information on their 2nd annual White Cane Walk event, coming up on Saturday, October 17 at Largo Central Park.

While Lighthouse of Pinellas receives some state funding, they would like to be self-supporting and donations to their two fund raisers help them to achieve that goal.

Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park – Mike Delancey (WWAR)

On Thursday, July 2, Mike Delancey, a Pinellas Park resident who was critically injured in a sniper attack during military combat in Iraq shared his story and the non-profit he founded, The Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch (WWAR), built to inspire veterans of all conflicts to get OUT and ACTIVE. They offer activities for all Military Veterans in need of a supportive and healing environment, to give them a new sense of hope, resilience and strength as they move forward in their journey.

In 2015 they partnered with the City of Pinellas Park to build WWAR at Lurie Park.

Lurie Park is a purpose-built ADA City Park and is home to WWAR. It is a place for Wounded Warriors, Veterans, their families and the whole community to come and enjoy. The Park has been designed to support both the physical and emotional needs of Warriors with fitness and sports at its core.

Our theme this week was America 250, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As a part of that celebration, Gary and Bonnie Thrasher dressed up in colonial attire and Gary share excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.

Kiwanis Club of Pinellas Park – Big Beautiful Bill
On Thursday, June 25, our club secretary Sydney Legakis, spoke on the highlights of last year’s tax legislation, generally known as “The Big Beautiful Bill”. Sydney brings more than 30 years of experience in accounting, finance, taxation, and commercial real estate investing.

Sydney’s presentation touched on the following areas of the bill:
• Reporting vs. Regulating
• Continuation of 2017 Legislation
• New Tax Provisions

Key new provisions are:
• $1,000 charity deduction for non-itemizers
• Child Tax Credit increases to $2200
• No tax on tips, No tax on overtime
• No or reduced tax on Social Security income
• Car loan interest deduction
• Clean Energy Credits are mostly going away
• $40k cap on taxes for itemizers (effects states with income taxes)

Sydney’s presentation included a lot of detail and made several important points that may have been lost to many people. For example:
• Implementation of legislation is often different from what is in the bill
• Many provisions of the 2017 tax bill were scheduled to sunset, so not passing the 2025 bill would have resulted in a tax increase across all income brackets
• Many of the dollar provisions of the bill are now automatically adjusted for inflation
