Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) are emergency information for your area, sent directly to your phone by government officials, which include National Weather Service warnings for destructive wind and hail, tornadoes, hurricanes, and flash floods.

Keep your WEAs enabled! Look under the settings menu for notifications or safety options, locate the government or emergency alert section, and toggle the switches ON for emergency and public safety alerts. 🚨

🥵 Take the heat seriously. Unseasonably hot temperatures are expected this entire week with highs near 100 degrees and heat index values in the triple digits. The abundant sunshine and warm nighttime lows will create a prolonged period of dangerous heat through at least Friday. Drink plenty of water and head inside promptly to cool down if you start feeling overheated.

The McDonald County Commission has issued a COUNTY WIDE BURN BAN effective IMMEDIATELY for all outdoor burning. After polling the fire chiefs in the county, the drought monitor that indicates we are in severe drought, and the recent grass fires in the county they felt it necessary to enact this. It will be in effect for 30 days or until rescinded by the County Commission.

Showers and storms will develop across southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri overnight through Monday morning. Rainfall amounts will be highly variable with localized bands of heavy rainfall. Locations northeast of Springfield will see the least amount of rainfall. Any flooding will remain highly localized.
