National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter. Since then, each subsequent president has issued an annual proclamation commemorating the third Friday in September as National POW/MIA Recognition Day. No matter where ceremonies are held, the common purpose is to honor those who were held captive and returned, as well as those who remain missing. Since 1999, the POW/MIA Accounting community has created a poster commemorating National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The 2020 edition of the poster continues to honor this tradition with this year’s theme, Relentless Pursuit…A Determined Nation. More than 81,900 Americans are still missing, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) *(August 2020)

Beat the flu at the VA's drive-thru! The Alexandria VA is encouraging all Veterans to get their flu shot at our Drive-Thru Flu Vaccination Clinic. “Beat the Flu at the Drive-Thru” clinic that takes the hassle and inconvenience out of making an appointment, parking and coming into the Medical Center. Veterans simply come to the VA, drive up to Building 2, show their VA ID card or DD-214, and follow the signs to receive the Flu vaccination. It’s as easy as rolling down your window and rolling up your sleeve.

The Drive-Thru Flu Vaccination Clinic will be held
at the Alexandria VA in front of Building 2
Thursday, September 17 from 1 – 4 p.m.
Criteria for participation: Be an honorably discharged veteran. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in VA to receive a flu vaccination; but will need to bring their DD-214.
Wear a short sleeve shirt and no jacket to make things go quicker.

Veterans enrolled in the VA may also receive a flu vaccination during their primary care, specialty care or mental health scheduled appointments or drop in any time at their primary care team. They can choose from more than 60,000 community locations to get a no-cost flu shot. Visit www.va.gov/communitycare/flushot.asp to find a current in-network location near you. Thousands of new sites are available this year and your location may have changed. Remember to have your VA ID card and a photo ID to receive your flu shot at no charge. Also, get documentation to provide to VA for tracking purposes.
