225th Engineer Brigade

The 225th Engineer Brigade is a combat heavy engineer brigade of the Louisiana Army National Guard. It is one of the largest engineer formations in the United States Army National Guard. The 225th Engineer Brigade is headquartered at Camp Beauregard near Pineville, Louisiana in Rapides Parish. The brigade conducts missions of mobility, counter-mobility, survivability, and civil engineering support. The brigade possesses a mixture of civil and combat engineer units to accomplish these missions.

The awards ceremony was held to recognize select Service Members for their accomplishments while serving on active duty. The 225th Headquarters and Headquarters (HHC) Company recognize Soldiers on December 2, 2019 as they receive their combat patch. This patch ceremony is the second ceremony while on deployment. All personnel assigned to the HHC have earned their combat patch. To qualify for the combat patch, Soldiers must be assigned to a unit serving in a declared hostile environment and receive the approval of the Army Chief of Staff. The combat patch, or shoulder sleeve insignia indicates former wartime service, is a tradition started by the Army during World War II.

The 225th Engineer Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company held a costume party on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Soldiers dressed up as monsters, witches and characters from iconic movies. The 225th holds an S.E.O.L. (SHARP/ Equal Opportunity/ Legal) symposium at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. The audience for the symposium includes multiple sections from the 225th Engineer Brigade such as the Legal Section, Equal Opportunities and SHARP. Other participants includes Soldiers from the Criminal Investigation Department.

The purpose of this symposium is to cross-train sections that have a great deal of overlap and fine-tune processes within these sections.

Derrick Ursin takes command of the HHC, one Soldier is promoted to the rank of sergeant and three Soldiers are acknowledged for their outstanding work ethics at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Congratulations to Spc. David Campbell, operations specialist, and Spc. Hunter Stebbins, vehicle driver, on graduating from the Basic Leadership Course (BLC). The two Soldiers graduated on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. While attending the course these Soldiers passed all of their required testing above the standard. BLC is the first leadership course non-commissioned officers attend. The course teaches specialists and corporals the basic skills required to lead small group of Soldiers.

The 225th Engineer Brigade's Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) celebrated the 4th of July with a variety of events at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The events started at 5:00 a.m. and lasted throughout the day. Events consisted of a 5k run, company picnic, tug-of war, kickball, horseshoes, soccer, dominoes and UNO. Soldiers of HHC enjoyed all of these events in the presence of good food and music.

Congratulations to the top performers of the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) within the 225th Headquarters and Headquarters Company. These Soldiers were recognized on June 23, 2019. The top performers scored over 280 out of 300 possible points while deployed at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The APFT is conducted bi-annually to test the endurance, muscular strength and cardiovascular respiratory fitness of Soldiers. This test includes the push up event, sit-up event, as well as, a two mile run.

The Soldiers of 225th Headquarters and Headquarters Company celebrated a birthday for Col. Cindy Haygood, commander of 225th Engineer Brigade, on June 15, 2019 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. While she was out of the office for a cup of coffee, Brigade Soldiers staged a cake, an assortment of snacks, gifts, and more than 30 packs of Skittles, her favorite candy. Though Soldiers are not able to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other events with their family back home, Soldiers come together as an Army family to celebrate during these milestones.

Congratulations to Spc. Ebony Hall, a local area network manager for the 225th Engineer Brigade, on graduating from the Basic Leadership Course (BLC) on June 8, 2019 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Hall graduated with a score of more than 94%, qualifying her for the commandants list. BLC is the first leadership course Soldiers attend before becoming non-commissioned officers. It is a month long course that teaches specialist and corporals the basic skills required to lead small groups of Soldiers.

Lt. Gen. Terry Ferrell, commander of U.S. Army Central, visits the 225th Engineer Brigade at Camp Buehring, Kuwait on June 8, 2019. During Ferrell's visit he spoke with Soldiers, visited different job sites, gave out three-star coins and ended with a lunch alongside fellow Soldiers.

Ferrell was recently promoted to lieutenant general on March 8, 2019, he recently served as the United States Central Command chief of staff.

Soldiers of the 225th Engineer Brigade attended Comic-Con on June 1, 2019 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Comic-Con is an event centered on comic books, which are held for fans to meet with characters and creators of the comics. The United States Organization (USO) and DC Comics sponsored the event that included characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Women, The Flash, And Black Lighting to name a few. To make the event special, Candice Patton, Iris of "The Flash", Tom King, the writer of "Batman", and Jim Lee, the artist of the comics, were in attendance to talk to Soldiers and give out autographs. In the full spirit of the event, Soldiers were allowed the opportunity to dress up as their favorite DC Comic characters.

Brig. Gen (CH) Kenneth "ED" Brandt, the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Chaplains for the Army National Guard, visits the 225th Engineer Brigade at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, on June 3, 2019. Chaplain Brandt was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister on June 26, 1985 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received a direct commission from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on Feb. 4, 1989. Chaplain Brandt has served in Operation iraqi Freedom, and as an Army National Guard Staff Chaplain for the Delaware National Guard.

His wife, Mrs. Skyla Broussard, delivered Micah on May 23, 2019 at4:08am weighing in at a healthy 7 pounds. Both Mrs. Broussard and baby Micah are resting and doing well. Care packages are always appreciated. This small act motivates Soldiers with their daily operations. The 225th Engineer Brigade hosted a Spiritual resilency trip on May 10, 2019 to the National Evangelical Church of Kuwait (NECK). This trip allowed Soldiers to openly practice their Spiritual believes. The church has approximately 80 congregations of Christian Protestant faiths ranging from Charismatics, Pentacostals all the way to Orthodox. The church also offeres various language based services to the choice of those looking for Christian fellowship and worship services.
