Southern Loggers Cooperative

Southern Loggers Cooperative Southern Loggers Cooperative is a member owned Independent Forestry and Agriculture Cooperative
(8)

Southern Loggers Cooperative is an association which provides expertise in negotiation and contract formulation for the membership which is composed of harvesters of timber, haulers of forest products in the natural state, finished products or products for recycling, forest road contractors, silvicultural contractors, forest landowners, farmers, ranchers, horticulturist or viticulturist. The philosophy of this cooperative is that the membership must receive the most competitive prices for their supplies, services and equipment. Southern Loggers Cooperative has three distinct customer groups: vendors, forest industry mills and/or facilities and financial institutions.

Mission: MISSION This plan is written as a guide for managing this new cooperative and will also serve as the basis for a separate, detailed marketing plan. A summary of the main points of this plan are identified below: •The objectives of Southern Loggers Cooperative are to increase the profitability for the membership, enhance the common interest of the forestry industry and insure the integrity of the membership and all associates remain constant and positive. •The first mission of the SLC is to reduce the costs of supplies and services inherent in the industry which will be accomplished by negotiations with their current and potential suppliers/vendors. •The ongoing mission will be to assist the membership in getting set up to use the contracts. •The keys to success for SLC are marketing, networking and quality of customer service. •We desire to establish a successful partnership with our membership, staff, and vendors who respect the interests and goals of each party. •This cooperative is new to the marketplace and therefore opportunities are infinite for this group.

UPDATE from President & CEO - Todd Martin

SLC Members:

COVID-19
I hope that all of you are well and healthy. I especially hope that all of you are taking the necessary precautions in order to stay healthy and do all that you can to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

While the timber/logging/forest products sector and all supporting agencies has been designated an essential workforce, we are doing all that we can help stop the spread of this virus. We continue to be fully staffed at the SLC.

We are asking for your help. As you know, our stations are all un-manned locations. So, we are asking that all of you do your part at our stations by wearing gloves when fueling and use hand sanitizer. This will help in the potential spreading of this dreaded disease any worse than it already has. This not only protects you, but it also protects those fueling behind you. So, please help us do our part in stopping the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. We will continue to update you as we can.

Stations
While the rain continues to hinder our work, we are continuing to do work at our station sites to get them back in to shape after a very wet time. Please know that we are doing this work as quickly as possible.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
As of 4/1/20, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is now available at the Deridder station. DEF will be available at the LaFayette, AL Station next week. The SLC is currently undergoing an expansion project, with DEF being retrofitted at all locations where it is feasible to do so. This process has been slowed a good bit by the COVID-19 situation and the weather, but Petron has been able to chip away at several locations. Zwolle, Campti, Winnfield and Carmel should be the next stations to get DEF, followed by Evadale and Pineland. We’re having to just take things as they come, as everything is changing daily.

We pray that you, your families, and your employees and their families are safe and secure. Please reach out to us if you need anything!

Thanks, be safe, and God Bless!

***SLC March Highlights***

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SLC continues to provide fuel as well as other products and services to our loggers, farmers, and agriculturalists who are all deemed essential by the federal government. Highlights for the month of March are as follows:

- Total station fuel sales of 3,765,143 gallons
- 21 stations over 100,000 fuel gallons
- 3 stations over 200K fuel gallons (Deridder, Zwolle, Lufkin)
- Total station DEF sales of 15,402 gallons; Lufkin took the top spot, selling 3673 gallons.

March was certainly a great month for the SLC, especially considering the wet conditions that slowed things down in the woods. Our prayer is that our members are able to continue rolling, stay safe, and make it through these tense times with COVID-19. Southern Loggers Co-Op will remain focused on the mission of cutting costs for our members, and being here to support them with consistent and reliable service.

I want to especially thank our staff that continues to come to work each and every day to make sure that we are here for our members and that we can continue to efficiently provide for them.

Please reach out to us if you need anything, and stay safe!

God Bless!

Message from our President & CEO

SLC Members:

I hope that all of you are well and healthy. I especially hope that all of you are taking the necessary precautions in order to stay healthy and do all that you can to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

As you all know, several states including Louisiana now has a “stay at home” order in effect from the Governor. While the timber/logging/forest products sector and all supporting agencies has been designated an essential workforce, we are doing all that we can help stop the spread of this virus. We continue to be fully staffed at the SLC. We are fortunate that we have such a small staff. We only have 7 total employees with one of those being in Alabama. Additionally, we have one staff member that is out for some surgery. So, we only have 5 staff members here at the office. We are obviously practicing social distancing, and everyone is keeping their distance. Although we have very little traffic through our office, we are closing our office to any visitors. All appointments that we had scheduled for our office is cancelled until further notice. For those of you members that live close to our corporate office here in Pineville, La; please do not come by the office for any reason. With the technology that we have; everything from applying for membership, resetting cards, reprinting cards, and all other correspondence and issues can be handled by phone, through our website, or by email.

At this point, we do not anticipate any interruption of fuel supply to our stations. There could be some issues just from a trucking capacity standpoint because everyone in the country is keeping their tanks full. For example, instead of managing our tank volumes to the middle of the tank, we are currently keeping our tanks as full as possible. However, we are not anticipating it being a huge issue. Again, I want to caution that this assumption could change.

So, please help us do our part in stopping the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. We will continue to update you as we can.

Thanks, be safe, and God Bless!

***Station Records***
Two SLC Stations have set records this week. On Monday - (3/9/20) the Chillicothe, OH Station set a new daily record of 5,857 gallons and the Monticello, MS Station set a new daily record of 6,019 gallons. On Wednesday - (3/11/20) the Monticello Station set another record with 6,072 gallons pumped. We are very pleased that these 2 stations continue to grow since their start-up only a couple months apart 7 years ago. Thanks to all of our members in these areas that continue to support our effort to save them money. #GotFuelWeDo

Message from President/CEO - Todd Martin:

I know that everyone is aware of the huge amount of rainfall that we have had across the south and across the entire footprint of the Southern Loggers Cooperative. As a result of that very wet weather, we are very aware of the toll that it has taken on the sites of many of our locations. We stand ready to do as much work as possible on all of these locations once we have a little drying. We know that many locations (if not all) are in bad shape but we would only be wasting your money to put material on those locations while it is so wet. We ask for your patience as we deal with the weather and work on these sites. We want to spend your money wisely and that is exactly what we are trying our best to do.

On a different topic, we need your help! We are seeing a rash of drivers jamming nozzles so that they will not shut off and causing overfills. Please do not do this. It causes problems for yourself, the SLC and other members. We are watching our cameras closely and you will be fined if caught doing this and you or your truck owner will be responsible for the clean-up of the fuel spill. We have had clean-up remediation that cost members from $5,000.00 to $20,000.00. Your help in this area will be appreciated.

Respectfully,
Todd Martin

"Day of Louisiana Logging"

The Louisiana Loggers Association hosted their FIRST Legislative Day in Winn Parish. There were 7 Louisiana senators and 7 representatives, the chief of staff for Congressman Abraham, former congressman Rodney Alexander, local police jurors and city council and of course our Louisiana Loggers! The amount of rain fall did not allow the onsite logging job tour.

Our President & CEO - Todd Martin was asked to be one if he speakers to address the legislators and Loggers about the Southern Loggers Cooperative and some of the issues that Loggers are facing.

Special thanks to Josh & Toni McAllister and the LLA for their tireless work to help Louisiana Loggers.
