Southern Loggers Cooperative

Southern Loggers Cooperative Southern Loggers Cooperative is a member owned Independent Forestry and Agriculture Cooperative
(8)

Southern Loggers Cooperative is an association which provides expertise in negotiation and contract formulation for the membership which is composed of harvesters of timber, haulers of forest products in the natural state, finished products or products for recycling, forest road contractors, silvicultural contractors, forest landowners, farmers, ranchers, horticulturist or viticulturist. The philosophy of this cooperative is that the membership must receive the most competitive prices for their supplies, services and equipment. Southern Loggers Cooperative has three distinct customer groups: vendors, forest industry mills and/or facilities and financial institutions.

Mission: MISSION This plan is written as a guide for managing this new cooperative and will also serve as the basis for a separate, detailed marketing plan. A summary of the main points of this plan are identified below: •The objectives of Southern Loggers Cooperative are to increase the profitability for the membership, enhance the common interest of the forestry industry and insure the integrity of the membership and all associates remain constant and positive. •The first mission of the SLC is to reduce the costs of supplies and services inherent in the industry which will be accomplished by negotiations with their current and potential suppliers/vendors. •The ongoing mission will be to assist the membership in getting set up to use the contracts. •The keys to success for SLC are marketing, networking and quality of customer service. •We desire to establish a successful partnership with our membership, staff, and vendors who respect the interests and goals of each party. •This cooperative is new to the marketplace and therefore opportunities are infinite for this group.

"Day of Louisiana Logging"

The Louisiana Loggers Association hosted their FIRST Legislative Day in Winn Parish. There were 7 Louisiana senators and 7 representatives, the chief of staff for Congressman Abraham, former congressman Rodney Alexander, local police jurors and city council and of course our Louisiana Loggers! The amount of rain fall did not allow the onsite logging job tour.

Our President & CEO - Todd Martin was asked to be one if he speakers to address the legislators and Loggers about the Southern Loggers Cooperative and some of the issues that Loggers are facing.

Special thanks to Josh & Toni McAllister and the LLA for their tireless work to help Louisiana Loggers.

Yesterday (Monday - 12/2/19) saw two daily records breached. First, our Brewton, Alabama location hit a new daily high with 10,009 gallons. Second, SLC stations combined to break the daily record with 197,246 gallons, breaching the previous high set just two weeks ago.

To see records being broken so frequently here at the end of the year is definitely outside the norm, but we’ll certainly take it! It’s encouraging to see the continued growth of the SLC across its footprint, no matter what time of the year it is.

Thanks to all of our members for your continued support and dedication to our mission of saving you money. The more fuel that is purchased, the more money you save and receive to put right back in your pocket.

Also, we had a record day on DEF sales with 868 gallons. The icing on the cake was that SLC stations sold a record 196,605 gallons of fuel, topping the previous record set two weeks prior by over 5000 gallons. Additionally, on Tuesday (11/19/19) the Monticello, Mississippi Station reached a new daily high yesterday, pumping 5410 gallons. Vandals Destroy Logging Equipment in Winn Parish

Reward offered for information

Baton Rouge, LA (October 21, 2019) – A Natchitoches Parish logging operation is shut down after vandals allegedly destroyed two pieces of equipment in Winn Parish.

On October 17, 2019, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) enforcement agents along with the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to a logging site in Winn Parish off of L. Kieffer Rd. in St. Maurice.

Enforcement agents say vandals entered the logging operation and destroyed the radiator

in a 2011 748 John Deere Skidder and managed to bust a large hole in the engine block of a 2014 643 John Deere Cutter.

“The criminal actions of others have resulted in the shutdown of this logging operation.

This local logger is now looking at an estimated repair bill of $16,000. This does not include his lost down time,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain, D.V.M.

LDAF enforcement agents along with the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in bringing these vandals to justice.

The Louisiana Forestry Association is offering a reward up to $2,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this criminal damage to property.

Anyone with information is urged to call the LDAF Emergency Hotline at 855-452-5323 or the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-628-4611.

Flashback......October 15, 2004 the SLC was formed in Winnfield, Louisiana with only 9 members, no sales of any kind and only a dream of what this effort could be. Fast forward 15 years later to October 15, 2019 and we now have over 3,300 members, 31 fuel stations, projected sales of over $110 million in 2019, over $8.5 million in dividends paid back to our members, and a continued dream of future growth! As we celebrate 15 years serving our members we want to thank the very members that we serve. You are the reason that we are the largest and #1 agricultural based cooperative in the world and you are the reason that 7 staff members work so hard every day to save you money! September 2019 highlights:
•Total station fuel sales of 3,597,451 gallons
•18 stations sold over 100,000 gallons
•Two stations (Deridder & Zwolle) sold over 200,000 gallons
•Total station DEF sales of 11,624 gallons.

Through the third quarter, SLC stations have pumped over 32 million gallons of fuel this year; that total puts us over 3 million gallons ahead of the same time in 2018. We’re proud to see such substantial growth in a year’s time, especially given the super wet conditions our members faced through a good chunk of this year.

Thanks to our members for your continued support in what we do for you! #cuttingthecostofdoingbusiness
