This National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week we thank you to our dispatchers , you are the first help someone receives in a time of need. No blue lights, funny hats or donuts, no big red trucks, and spotted dogs, but a calm voice, skills and ability to listen, comprehend, relay, and reassure; all while while collecting and distributing accurate information, instructions, and compassion. Thank you to all the 911 dispatchers especially ours in Amherst and Nelson counties we certainly appreciate you.

⚠️ Weather Forecast for Nelson County – Monday

We’ve seen the forecast for tomorrow, and while maps and probabilities can vary depending on location, the message remains the same: there is a threat for severe weather in our area Monday, including damaging winds and the potential for tornado activity.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞.

Now is a good time to take a few simple precautions:

• Charge phones and devices in case of power outages
• Bring in or secure outdoor items that could become dangerous in strong winds
• Make sure you have a reliable way to receive weather warnings
• Have a plan for where you’ll go if a tornado warning is issued

Our area is fortunate to have excellent meteorologists who have already been sharing detailed updates and observations thus far. 𝐖𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬.

We’ll also continue sharing important updates to our story as information becomes available. If you experience an emergency or immediate danger during a storm, please call 911.

Stay weather aware, Nelson!

As a chief officer it’s easy to get frustrated with the budgets, the reports, the salesman, keeping up with the standards ect ect; however it is also all very worth it when your guys just kicked butt on a call, let me get dirty and as you pull back in see a full parking lot. Let’s all be thankful for our folks who give their time to study, train and work hard for our communities.
