Safety tip:

Being aware of your surroundings is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay safe. In today’s fast-paced world, distractions—especially our phones—can take our attention away from what’s happening around us. Keep your phone tucked away in public and stay alert to the people and activity around you. Trust your instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, create distance.

Be especially mindful when entering or exiting vehicles and buildings. Have your keys ready, scan the area before approaching, and avoid lingering in parking lots or doorways. When arriving home or in any parking lot , look around before getting out of your vehicle and be aware of anything unusual. Staying observant at all times—even at home—helps you recognize potential concerns early.

When entering any new place, take a moment to identify exits and notice areas with limited visibility, such as blind corners or alleys. Thinking ahead can help you respond quickly in an emergency.

Protect your belongings by keeping valuables secure and never leaving items unattended. Small precautions can prevent theft or loss.

Remember:

Stay alert and limit distractions

Walk with confidence and know where you’re going

Be observant when entering or exiting vehicles, buildings, and your home

Pay attention to suspicious behavior

Report concerns promptly

Situational awareness isn’t about fear—it’s about being prepared and proactive.

If you see something suspicious, call 911 in an emergency or contact your local non-emergency number.

Lenoir County is under a Winter Storm Warning. Whiteout conditions are expected, making travel extremely dangerous. Strong wind gusts may bring down tree limbs and cause power outages.

Hazardous conditions could begin as early as 10:00 PM tonight and last through 7:00 PM Sunday. Wind chills could drop as low as 3 degrees below zero, creating a risk of frostbite with prolonged exposure.

Residents are strongly urged to remain indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. High winds and snow drifting may make roadways impassable.

If travel is unavoidable, please use extreme caution, allow extra time, and dress appropriately for extreme cold to ensure your safety.

Pink Hill Police Department Winter Weather Advisory

With freezing temperatures upon us, the Pink Hill Police Department urges all citizens to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Freezing conditions can cause "black ice," a thin, often invisible layer of ice that forms when a wet roadway surface freezes, making driving extremely dangerous.

Please remember:

Only drive if essential. If you must drive, reduce your speed and increase your following distance. Be cautious on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas, where black ice is more likely to form. Your safety is our top priority. Should you need assistance or encounter hazardous conditions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Pink Hill Police Department or 911. Stay safe, and take care out there.
