At Shoals we do not have the luxury of having a large budget with an abundance of money to spend so we have to purchase wisely. We introduce to you our recently acquired piece of equipment called a turbo draft. With this equipment we have the ability to establish a water supply from up to 200 foot away, unlike the traditional drafting that requires the truck to be within 30 feet or closer. In a rural area with no hydrants, this can broaden our water point selection to reduce the travel time to and from water points. When it’s burning, every second counts and we’re constantly striving to provide the best services we can to the community!

A little Monday night training session. Search tactics, victim removal and downed firefighter drills. In a field that can kill you, you can never train enough. These young guys learned how difficult navigating a building that they know can be with no visibility.

Last night we were finally able to hold our annual awards dinner after Mother Nature delayed it. Congratulations go out to all award winners and a huge thank you to all members and families that support them. Awards winners are: Junior of the Year - Kaleb Underwood, First Responder of the Year - Tammy Holcomb, Firefighter of the Year - Caleb Nelson, Chief’s Award - Amanda Sink. We would like to also extend a huge “thank you” to John Brown’s for catering our event and also Nana-Mac for originally providing an event location. Unfortunately with the delay, scheduling did not allow for us to use the venue but we still offer a sincere thank you for the opportunity.

Starting them out young! Deputy Chief Caleb Nelson’s son, Boston, decided to hop in to help dad and try his hand at hose rolling. Not a bad job at all for such a little fella! Without the support of or families none of what we do would be possible.
