The Jefferson County Greenways community is mourning the tragic loss of life that occurred at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve yesterday. We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.

We also want to thank the first responders and emergency personnel for their tireless efforts during the response.

Out of respect for those affected and to allow our staff time to process this tragedy, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve will be closed today.

We respectfully ask that questions regarding the circumstances be directed to the appropriate authorities.

Announcing a HUGE accomplishment for Turkey Creek and Vestavia Hills Elementary West 🎖️

Last week, for the FIRST TIME in over three years and 50 offerings of our Life of A Stream Program, students caught every single macroinvertebrate in the Group 1: "Sensitive to Pollution" category during dip netting.

The macros in Group 1 will not survive if there is even a small amount of pollution in the water. So finding all of them means that Turkey Creek is very clean! 🙌

Register now for the JUNIOR NATURALIST ACADEMY SUMMER CAMP at Ruffner Mountain. Your budding naturalist can explore the mountain with experienced Jefferson County Greenways Naturalists, Emily and Hunter, and gain invaluable insights into the natural world around them.

The four-day-long camp is offered Tuesday through Friday during the first and second weeks in June. Register today and secure one of the few remaining spots!

The results are in! Since we began our membership campaign on March 16, we’ve gained 150 new supporting memberships! THANK YOU to all who have joined.
