🚨 LINCOLN COUNTY PARENTS – PLEASE READ 🚨
Our office has received an increase in complaints about unsafe bicycle, e-bike, and scooter riding in our communities, especially involving children. We want to share some facts that should make every parent pause.

⚠️ The reality is alarming:
🚑 Nearly 120,000 bicyclists are treated in U.S. emergency rooms every year after crashes.
⚡ E-bike injuries have exploded, increasing from fewer than 1,000 per year just a few years ago to over 23,000 injuries annually.
🛴 E-scooter injuries have jumped to nearly 57,000 per year nationwide.
💔 Almost 1,000 bicyclists die every year in the United States in crashes involving vehicles.
🧠 Head injuries are the leading cause of death and disability in bike and scooter crashes.

These aren’t just statistics — they represent real kids and families.
🚨 We are seeing more reports of:
• Riding into traffic or through intersections without stopping
• Multiple riders on one scooter or e-bike
• Riding after dark without lights or visibility
• Kids riding without helmets
Many e-bikes and scooters can travel 20+ mph. At that speed, a crash can cause life-altering injuries in seconds.

👮‍♂️ Safety starts with awareness and education.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office asks parents and guardians to take a few minutes to talk with your kids about safe riding.
✔ Wear a helmet — every ride
✔ Follow traffic rules and stop signs
✔ Ride single file, one rider per device
✔ Stay visible and avoid riding after dark
✔ Slow down and watch for vehicles
Keeping our kids safe takes all of us paying attention — parents, drivers, and riders.

Let’s work together to make sure a fun ride doesn’t turn into a tragedy.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Community Partnership in Action

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Nevada Industrial Storage Complex of Alamo for their significant and generous donation to our agency.

Because of their support, we were able to:

🐾 Purchase a Detection and Apprehension K9, K9 Bowie, who is currently in training. Once deployed, Bowie will be patrolling the northern end of the county and will serve as another critical tool in our ongoing push to eradicate drugs from our community.
🖐️ Order a Live Scan fingerprint machine for the Alamo Substation, which will improve efficiency and accessibility for residents in the southern part of the county once installed. We will make a separate post once it is installed and appointments are available.
🏢 Update signage at both the Alamo Substation and the Detention Center — with the Detention Center signage now properly reflecting the Sheriff’s Office designation.

This investment directly enhances public safety, strengthens our operational capabilities, and improves services to the citizens we proudly serve.

Strong communities are built through strong partnerships. Thank you, Nevada Industrial Storage Complex of Alamo, for your commitment to Lincoln County.

Yesterday was a trial run for winter weather, today is looking to be the main event for this storm system. Snow is accumulating north of Panaca and on the summits. NDOT have dispatched their plows in hopes everyone's commute runs as smooth as possible in the morning. Snow fall is expected to last off and on throughout the day, and low visibility can be expected due to high winds.

Winter Weather has arrived in the higher elevations of Lincoln County. Snow is beginning to accumulate on the summits and north of Panaca. NDOT crews have been advised and are dispatching out all their plow crews for the area in hopes to stay ahead of significant accumulation on the highways. Tuesday morning is likely to be cold and highways may be iced over and slick. Please plan your commutes accordingly, drive safely, and thank a snow plow driver.

🐄🦌 OPEN RANGE & WILDLIFE REMINDER 🦌🐄

In Lincoln County, much of our area is open range. This means livestock such as cattle may legally roam and can be on or near roadways at any time. In addition, wildlife including deer, elk, and smaller animals frequently cross our rural highways — often without warning.

🚨 In the last week alone, we have responded to 4 vehicle vs. animal collisions. These incidents serve as an important reminder of how quickly a routine drive can turn dangerous.

🚗 Animals can appear suddenly so please remember:
✔️ Reduce your speed in rural areas
✔️ Use high beams when appropriate (and dim for oncoming traffic)
✔️ Stay alert and avoid distracted driving
✔️ Scan both sides of the roadway for movement
✔️ Slow down immediately if you see animals near the road

If you encounter livestock blocking the roadway, do not attempt to move them yourself. Contact Lincoln County Dispatch non-emergency line so the owner can be notified.

Non-Emergency line: 775-962-5151 option 2

Our rural roads are beautiful, but they require extra caution. Drive alert and expect the unexpected. 🛣️
