We are located on Mane Street in historic Pioneertown, California next to the old church and across from the Red Dog Saloon, one of the hippest saloons around. We are also only a five minute walk from one of the best live music venues in the country: the legendary Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace. Not only do they have good food, drinks, and music, but you just might make a new friend. Pion
eertown is quiet town in the high desert. In the summer, it's a retreat from the low desert heat. It is regularly 15 degrees cooler than in the blazing Coachella Valley. The rest of the year the weather is perfect. In the winter there is sometimes an occasional dusting of snow. If you've never seen a Joshua Tree covered in snow you're missing out. Pioneertown started as a western movie set built in the 1940s. For convenience, actors built houses behind the facades and moved into them. A number of westerns were filmed in Pioneertown, including The Cisco Kid and Judge Roy Bean. Roy Rodgers helped build Pioneertown, and Gene Autrey frequented Pioneertown. He even taped his show at the local bowling alley, which is still there today. Mane Street is a Tombstone-style strip of facades, historic buildings, and businesses full of outstanding picture opportunities. On Saturdays from April through October, the Pioneertown Posse puts on a live action series of skits and gun battles on Mane Street. The Wooden Indian Ranch was formerly a cigar shop back when the town was operated as a movie set. It was known as the Wooden Indian Cigar Shop. Today it boasts two rooms for rent - the studio suite and the sunset room. The studio suite features a private fenced secluded patio, cozy bed, both swamp cooler and central air conditioner, two comfy couches, central heat as well as space heaters, spacious closet, full bathroom with roman tub/shower, mini fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The sunset room features a patio, cozy bed, central air conditioner, central heat, spacious closet, full bathroom with shower, toaster, coffee maker and a large ice chest on the patio. The area is flush with outdoor activities. Joshua Tree National Monument is nearby. Big Moronogo Preserve is also close by, as is Pipes Canyon. There are hiking trails and horse trails galore. Walk in any direction and you're sure to find an adventure. When you're ready to turn in for the evening in one of our comfy beds, don't forget to gaze up at the sky. You won't believe what you've been missing up there. Pioneertown is virtually free of light pollution, and is one of the best places for star gazing.
