To the moms who raised first responders… thank you.

Thank you for raising the ones who run toward the things most people run away from. The ones who answer tones in the middle of dinner, leave warm beds in the middle of the night, kneel beside strangers on their worst days, walk into smoke, bring calm into chaos, and somehow find the strength to do it all again tomorrow.

Long before there was a badge, a helmet, a radio, a set of turnout gear, or an EMT patch, there was a mom teaching courage, compassion, responsibility, and how to care about other people.

You raised sons and daughters who learned that helping matters. That service matters. That when someone is hurting, scared, trapped, sick, or in danger, you show up.

And every time one of us steps onto an engine, ambulance, rescue truck, or patrol unit, a little piece of what you taught us goes along for the ride.

So here’s to the moms who raised great kids…
and an extra-special thank you to the incredible moms who raised first responders.

You may not wear the uniform, but your fingerprints are all over the people who do.

There are people in the fire service who will never have the biggest title, the loudest voice, or a wall full of recognition.

They’re the ones who show up early, stay late, train when nobody is watching, clean up what they didn’t mess up, check on their crew, and step forward when everyone else is waiting for “somebody” to handle it.

They don’t need applause. They need the job done.

That is what this article calls the “nobodies” of the fire service, and I absolutely love the way it reframes that word.

Because sometimes the person who thinks they’re “just nobody” is actually the one quietly holding the whole thing together.

No title. No spotlight. No excuses.
Just ownership, humility, heart, and the willingness to show up.

If you’re one of those people, keep showing up. You matter more than you probably realize.

Thank you to all 1st responders near and far!!

This week in the Texas Hill Country we experienced rain and terrible flooding and devastation again a year after the last flooding and tragedy. Yes there are more safety measures in place now and the loss of life is not like last year. We are better trained and ready but it’s still overwhelming. We are tired, but strong. Our community counts on us and we suffer losses just like they do but often suffer in silence because our community needs us. Please pray for us as we rebuild with our community.

For all the volunteers out there who love their side “job”. Thank you for doing what you do, for free!

A reminder for every department:

Check on your sisters and brothers!

Not just after the big call.
Not just after the tragedy.
Not just when the tears are visible.

Check on them during the ordinary days too.

The strongest smile in the station may be hiding the heaviest burden.

One text.
One conversation.
One “How are you really doing?”

It can make more difference than you know.

Some calls stay with us.

Some faces.
Some sounds.
Some moments.

We don’t talk about all of them.

But God sees every burden we carry.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3

For every female first responder carrying something heavy today:

You are seen.
You are valued.
You are loved.

And you don’t have to carry it alone.

Different uniforms.
Different badges.
Different responsibilities.

One mission.

When the tones drop, the radio crackles, and someone calls for help, first responders don’t ask who gets the credit.

Firefighters attack the flames.
EMS fights for life.
Dispatchers guide the chaos.
Law Enforcement secures the scene.
Sheriff’s Deputies protect our communities.
Highway Patrol keeps our roadways safe.

Each role matters.
Each sacrifice counts.
Each responder stands watch so others can sleep.

We may wear different patches, but we serve the same community and answer the same call.

Together, we are stronger.
Together, we are first responders.

🇺🇸 Texas Strong.

People see the uniform.

They see the firefighter.
They see the EMT.
They see the deputy.

What they don’t always see is the woman underneath it.

The missed holidays.
The sleepless nights.
The difficult calls that replay in silence.
The pressure to stay strong for everyone else.

Being strong doesn’t mean carrying everything alone.

Even the strongest first responders need support, rest, prayer, and people who will check on them.

If you’re struggling, you’re not weak.
You’re human.

And you matter.
