Keep an eye on the weather this afternoon and tonight!

Thunderstorms will increase in coverage this afternoon with a few turning severe through this evening. The highest threat for severe weather is in the orange shaded area, where hail larger than 2 inches in diameter may fall. The threat for tornadoes in our area is much lower than earlier this month.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE from US National Weather Service Chicago Illinois. It’s looking like the most likely starting time for the severe weather in our area will be around 8 PM.

We will continue to monitor the potential weather event and keep everyone updated as we hear more.

We will continue to monitor the potential weather event and keep everyone updated as we hear more.

TORNADO RISK INCREASE: We are now up to a 9 out of 10 for our tornado risk. A significant tornado event is likely in the northern part of our area, where an intense to potentially violent tornado can't be ruled out. After 3p is when we expect things to get started, but we will be watching from here on out.

A dangerous tornado event appears probable across parts of Central Illinois today.

Be weather aware.

Please stay aware of the weather this afternoon into tonight. We will keep you updated the best that we can if our area is impacted.

The Orange region is now up to a 7/10. This is the main zone of concern, and while it does include part of our area, it’s not entirely unrealistic that perhaps the front lifts far enough north that the main tornado potential ends up *just* north of our area.

It’s all about the fine details, but it could be a rough day for some. Watching closely. My greatest concern is for US 24 and North, but DO NOT let your guard down on a day like today.

02/27/2026

Please refrain from burning today! Conditions are very favorable for rapid fire spread!

Special Weather Statement issued February 27 at 9:40AM CST by NWS Chicago IL

Lee; De Kalb; Kane; DuPage; La Salle; Kendall; Grundy; Kankakee; Livingston; Iroquois; Ford; Northern Cook; Central Cook; Southern Cook; Northern Will; Southern Will; Eastern Will

The combination of warm temperatures in the low to mid 60s,
relative humidity values dropping to the 25 to 35 percent range,
and southwest winds gusting 30 to 35 mph will lead to a threat for
brush and grass fire spread this afternoon.

Limit outdoor activities that involve open flame or sparks,
including operating farm equipment, parking on grass, and
improperly discarding smoking materials.ble re
