Today is Read a Book Day, which is the perfect time to highlight our Learning Resource Center! 📚 Here are 5 things you might not know about the LRC:

1. There’s a section for every program:
The LRC has specific shelves of books for each program, making it easy to find books that might interest YOU! For example, the First Responders Academy section has books on forensic science, law, how to become an EMT and more, while the Veterinary Science section has books about chickens, dogs, running a farm and more.

2. Writing contests happen throughout the year:
The LRC hosts writing contests several times a year with different themes and categories.

3. You can learn about UVCC’s history:
Interested in learning more about the history of UVCC? There’s a designated UVCC history section with yearbooks, newspaper clippings and more.

4. The multimedia room has supplies for class projects:
Need poster board, colored paper, coloring materials or access to a laminator? The multimedia room has a variety of materials that can help bring your class projects to life!

5. Authors sometimes stop by:
The LRC occasionally hosts visiting author events. Last year, popular young adult author Mindy McGinnis visited UVCC to speak with students about her writing process and books.

So, whether you’re looking for a book, working on a project or just curious about UVCC’s history, there’s a lot to explore in the LRC! 📚

Sometimes the path after graduation takes you somewhere unexpected, and Christian Porath is a great example of that.

A 2020 graduate of our Electrical Trades program, Christian is now a Marketing/Sales Specialist at Dickman Supply, Inc. His days combine his passion for the trades with creativity, from helping customers find electrical solutions and answering questions to creating content, developing promotions, and working with distributors. 💡

Christian credits UVCC with giving him the electrical knowledge and industry foundation he uses every day to understand the products he supports and shares with customers.

His advice to current students: keep working hard and stay open to where your skills can take you. You never know where your passions may lead. 💙

console.log("Happy Monday!");

No, that's not a glitch, we were just practicing our JavaScript! We are excited to announce CIT this week's Program Spotlight.

The focus of this program is the information services and support area. CIT prepares students for careers dealing with information technology deployment and prepares them with the needed training to acquire key certifications including JavaScript, Microsoft Office Specialist and Google IT Specialist.

Over the last couple of years, course work has changed. Instructor Taylor Adami explains, "We have changed our competencies to better fit the job market. The students are learning Cybersecurity concepts and programming that could be used in AI. The students stay up to date with computer hardware and how computers are evolving through the updates and new software."
