Fire Prevention Week Recap! 🔥

What a fantastic week of fire prevention and community outreach!

Over the past week, we had the pleasure of visiting every public and private school in our district, reaching more than 1,800 students across 7 schools! 🎒

During our visits, students had the opportunity to:
🚒 Explore our fire trucks and learn about the equipment we use.
🔥 Learn essential fire safety skills, including Stop, Drop, and Roll.
🏠 Discuss what to do in the event of a fire and the importance of having a fire escape plan.

Teaching fire safety at a young age helps build knowledge, confidence, and habits that can last a lifetime. We’re grateful to all the schools, teachers, and staff who welcomed us and helped make this week a success! Piscataway Schools

On this day 25 years ago, New Market Rescue 1 was requested into New York City and helped our brothers in need after the attacks on the World Trade Center. The crew that responded with Rescue 1 was Deputy Chief Tim Thorn, Firefighter Rich Jones, Firefighter Mike Krohne, Firefighter Shane Formica, and Firefighter Walter Siegrist. First, Rescue 1 was stationed at FDNY Engine Company 219 and Ladder 105’s station on Dean St in Brooklyn along with South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department’s Truck 7. Then, Rescue 1 was reassigned to ground zero and helped with search and rescue. The last picture is the first view that our crew saw when arriving at ground zero. The 343 firefighters lives and all others lost that day that we’re taken that day will never be forgotten. Gone But Not Forgotten 🚒🇺🇸

Last night, the New Market Fire Department and Arbor Hose Company held our first of many 1/3 box trainings to increase the effectiveness of our responses to emergencies in our town.

The training focused on building a solid understanding of how each of our departments operates and how we can come together to further increase cohesiveness during stressful emergency situations. Topics such as radio etiquette, accountability, scene staging, the box alarm plan, and Mayday protocols were discussed among the group.

The goal is simple: to provide the best service possible to our community. We’re putting in the work to make sure that happens.

Two districts. One mission. One family.

Last night at approximately 7:08pm, the New Market Fire Department was requested by the Middlesex County Mutual Aid coordinators to assist at a large brush fire in South Brunswick Township. Members were part of a large diameter hose (LDH) task force and assisted in bringing a large volume of water from a nearby source to the scene of the brush fire at Reliable Wood Products. This LDH task force is a valuable resource used by the county in order to greatly increase the amount of water supplied to a fire scene when required. The crew was released at approximately 2am today.
