National Police week is upon us and it is a time to recognize the women and men of law enforcement, to honor and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to show support and appreciation for those who are serving and protecting our communities.

National Police week began on Sunday, May 10th, and will continue through Saturday, May 16th.

Police Officer Memorial Day is Friday, May 15, 2026.

The Pitman Police Department remembers and thanks all of our brothers and sisters for their service and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and have given their lives to protect our communities. In their honor, PPD will fly our flag at half staff on Friday, May 15th.

Today we fly the PPD HQ American flag at half-staff in observance of the passing and service of retired Chief of Police Robert "Bob" Leach. Chief Leach passed yesterday in Florida. Chief Leach served honorably with the Pitman Police Department from 1967 until 1994 and as Chief of Police from December 30, 1991 until his retirement in April, 1994.

Rest easy, Chief, and thank you for your service and dedication. The thoughts and prayers of the entire PPD are with Chief Leach, his family, friends, and all those who knew him.

The American Flag at PPD HQ is being flown at half staff in honor and memory of Vincent D. Salceto Jr. of South Philadelphia. Vincent was a proud American and a combat veteran of the Korean War, who proudly served for 30 years with the Army and Reserves. He was a hero with a long list of service decorations and citations, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star with the ā€œVā€ for Valor, and many more. Vincent also proudly served as a Philadelphia police officer for 30 years, earning many life saving and valor awards for his heroic service on the streets of Philadelphia and as an officer with the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit. Vincent was a friend and supporter of the PPD and will always be remembered as a member of our PPD family. In addition to the flag at half staff, PPD officers will be wearing a mourning band through the weekend in honor of Vincent.
