Congratulations to the Rising STAR Class of 2026! ⭐️🎓

Last Thursday evening, we had the privilege of celebrating another outstanding group of graduates from the Chatham County Sheriff's Office Rising STAR program.

Over the course of the program, these young leaders invested their time learning about law enforcement, public safety, leadership, teamwork, and the many ways they can make a positive impact in their communities. Most importantly, they built relationships, gained new experiences, and demonstrated a commitment to becoming the next generation of community leaders.

We are incredibly proud of each graduate and grateful to the families who supported them throughout the program.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Rising STAR another success. We can't wait to see what these young men and women accomplish in the future.

Congratulations to our newest S.T.A.R. graduates! 🌟

On June 11, 2026, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office celebrated another successful session of our Sheriff’s Training Academy for Residents (S.T.A.R.) Program. After several weeks of learning, hands-on activities, and behind-the-scenes experiences, participants gathered at the Historic Chatham County Courthouse in Pittsboro to receive their certificates and celebrate their accomplishment with Sheriff’s Office staff.

Throughout the program, graduates explored many aspects of the Sheriff’s Office, including patrol operations, detention services, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, and scenario-based training. Participants also had the opportunity to take part in ride-alongs and interact with deputies and staff from across the agency.

We appreciate the enthusiasm, engagement, and thoughtful questions this class brought to each session. Programs like S.T.A.R. help strengthen the connection between the Sheriff’s Office and the community we serve.

Congratulations to our newest BLET graduates! ✨

On Tuesday, June 16, four Chatham County Sheriff’s Office recruits – Jaimie Bonhomme, Ian Katz, Spencer Roberson, and Joshua Thompson -- graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Randolph Community College in Asheboro. The ceremony was especially memorable as it marked the school’s 100th BLET graduating class.

Our recruits distinguished themselves throughout the program, with Jaimie Bonhomme serving as class leader and earning the Outstanding Resiliency Award, an honor selected by fellow classmates.

Ian Katz earned both the POPAT Award for the fastest completion time on the state-standardized obstacle course and the Academic Award for achieving the highest overall class average. Ian completed the obstacle course in 3 minutes, 42 seconds, finishing just 10 seconds shy of the state record.

We are proud of all four graduates and appreciate the many CCSO co-workers, family members and friends who attended the ceremony to show their support. Please join us in congratulating these recruits as they begin the next phase of their careers serving the residents of Chatham County!

CCSO Deputy William Clay Receives Prestigious Army Legion of Merit 🎖️

Congratulations to Deputy William Clay on receiving the Army's Legion of Merit, one of the military's highest honors, recognizing his service during a distinguished 34-year Army career.

Clay joined the North Carolina National Guard in 1991 and went on to serve in the National Guard, Army Reserve, active-duty Army, and during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout his military career, he trained soldiers, led complex missions, mentored others, and helped ensure the readiness of units across the force.

On June 2 -- his birthday -- Clay traveled to Fort Bragg to receive the award. Despite the recognition, Clay remains characteristically humble.

"What I'm most proud of is helping other soldiers succeed," he said.
He also credits his wife, Stacy, for supporting him throughout his decades of military and public service. “Without her,” he said, “I wouldn't be where I am today."

A walk down memory lane 🐻🎓

Graduating seniors from Chatham Central High School who once attended JS Waters School returned to their former campus to walk the hallways, visit familiar classrooms, and reconnect with the teachers and staff who helped shape their educational journey.

CCSO Student Resource Officers SSgt. Anthony Norton and Lt. Rischetta White, along with Chief Deputy Steve Maynor, were there to join in celebrating these students and their accomplishments as they prepare to graduate tonight and begin their next chapter.

It's always special to see how far these young men and women have come since their days at J.S. Waters. Congratulations to the Chatham Central High School Class of 2026! We wish you success wherever your path leads next! ✨

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🎓✨

Recently some Northwood High School seniors took a special walk down memory lane, returning to Pittsboro Elementary School, where their school journeys first began.

The graduating seniors walked the halls once more, reconnected with former teachers and staff, and revisited some very familiar stomping grounds ahead of this exciting milestone.

CCSO Chief Deputy Steve Maynor and Capt. Phillip Richard were also there to greet the seniors – and many future seniors -- with smiles, high-fives, and words of encouragement as they made their way through the school.

It was a wonderful event celebrating how far these students have come, and all the bright futures ahead of them. Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

CCSO Honor Guard at Stanley Cup Final 🇺🇸🏒

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard had the privilege of presenting the colors tonight before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center in Raleigh.

As hockey fans from across North Carolina and beyond turned their attention to the championship matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights, our Honor Guard helped kick off the evening by representing Chatham County and the Sheriff's Office on one of the sport's biggest stages.

We are proud of the professionalism and dedication displayed by our Honor Guard members and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special event.

Congratulations to our team members who represented CCSO tonight and thank you for continuing to serve our community with pride!
