Special Olympics Torch Run a success! 🔥😎

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office completed another Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina for Special Olympics NC Wednesday morning, joining members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and students from Seaforth High School for a run from Seaforth High School to the Seaforth boat access at Jordan Lake.

The Torch Run continues to be a great way to support Special Olympics athletes while bringing together law enforcement, students, and the community for a meaningful cause.

Special thank-yous to Park Superintendent Brock Martin and his team at North Carolina State Parks and Recreation and Lisa Goins and her team at North Chatham Walmart Supercenter Chapel Hill for donating snacks and refreshments for our runners this morning. Great Torch Run, Great Fun! 🔥

Tuesday morning, members of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office joined fellow law enforcement officers, students, and community members in Siler City for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina.

Runners traveled about a mile from E&M Sales on N. 2nd Ave. to the Siler City Police Department, carrying the Flame of Hope alongside students from Jordan-Matthews High School, Seaforth High School, and Chatham Middle School.

We were proud to run with our partners from the Siler City Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and NC Wildlife Resources Commission in support of Special Olympics NC athletes across North Carolina. And a big “thank you” to E&M Sales for providing our starting point, and to Walmart Siler City for the snacks!

Great run, great fun, and a great cause. Thank you to everyone who participated and cheered the runners on this morning!

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Weekend Safety Reminder 🇺🇸

Memorial Day weekend is approaching, and with warmer weather comes heavier traffic on our roads and waterways, especially at Jordan Lake.

Whether you’re boating, swimming, fishing, traveling, or spending time outdoors with family and friends, please make safety part of your plans this weekend.

🛟ALWAYS wear a life jacket on the water.
🛟Never boat or drive impaired.
🛟Keep children within sight near the water.
🛟Swim only in designated areas.
🛟Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the heat.
🛟Lock vehicles and secure valuables at parks and recreation areas.

Our deputies will be out across Chatham County throughout the weekend working to help keep everyone safe on the roads and waterways.

As we enjoy the holiday weekend, let us also remember the true purpose of Memorial Day: honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

🇺🇸 Run for the Wall 2026 🇺🇸

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office was honored to welcome participants in the annual Run for the Wall as they traveled through Chatham County yesterday on their journey from California to Washington, D.C.

Riders stopped at the Journey Pentecostal Holiness Church in Siler City for lunch, fellowship, and conversation with veterans, volunteers, and members of our community. CCSO deputies assisted with traffic control during the visit and later escorted the riders south along US 421 into Lee County.

Run for the Wall is an annual cross-country motorcycle ride dedicated to honoring fallen veterans, supporting military personnel, and ensuring POW/MIAs are never forgotten. This year marks the 36th annual ride, with participants traveling thousands of miles across the country before arriving in Washington later this week.

We appreciate everyone who helped welcome these riders to Chatham County and thank the veterans and supporters taking part in this meaningful mission. ❤️🤍💙

🚨🚨SCAM ALERT🚨🚨

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is receiving calls about a jury duty/arrest warrant scam currently circulating in Chatham County.

In recent reports, scammers have claimed to be connected to the Sheriff’s Office, referencing “Chief Deputy Matthew Mitchell,” and directed residents to call 919-505-5386. These calls are fraudulent.

The callers may sound convincing and may pressure victims to act immediately to avoid arrest or other legal consequences. They often demand payment through unusual methods such as gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or payment apps.

Please remember:
• The Sheriff’s Office will never call you demanding payment over the phone.
• Caller ID and phone numbers can be spoofed to appear legitimate.
• If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately.

If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office directly at 919-542-2811 using a verified number -- not a number provided by the caller – or contact your local law enforcement agency.

Scammers rely on fear, urgency, and confusion. Take a moment, verify the information, and help protect yourself and others from becoming victims.
