(2950)

Carolina Tiger Rescue not only provides a forever home for exotic animals in need, we educate the public on how every day we can make a difference for wild cats in captivity and in the wild. We fight for the day when these beautiful creatures are no longer exploited by humans.

Guru and Amir Tiger cooling off with a little pool time! πŸ―πŸ’¦

Unlike most cats, tigers are strong swimmers and regularly use rivers, lakes, and wetlands in the wild to cool off, travel, and even hunt.

Join us in wishing India Tiger a happy sweet 16th birthday!πŸŽ‚πŸŽ€

India was rescued back in 2016 along with 15 other animals from a speed breeding/ pay-to-play facility that shut down. This facility had been housing 110 animals on just 4 acres of space. For some context, Carolina Tiger Rescue has 53 animals with over 65 acres. In addition to giving animals large species appropriate enclosures, we also give lots of enrichment to help keep their brains healthy and moving. Today India got to enjoy some stinky cardboard birthday enrichment!

Asian Leopard Cats (ALCs) are our ! 🐾
There are three ALCs that call Carolina Tiger Rescue home! Ginger, Pepper, and Clove are three spice named (and spicy) ladies that were rescued in 2023 from a breeder in Texas.

USDA had been investigating this breeder and had found they were living in poor conditions in small wire crates inside. During the investigation the owner passed away, and the animals were in need of rescue. Fortunately, through the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance, all the animals were able to be placed in accredited sanctuaries.

Rio Bobcat recently received veterinary care after our animal care team noticed changes that suggested she may be experiencing discomfort in her jaw. A veterinary exam revealed a tooth abscess, and the affected tooth was removed to help protect her long-term health. 🩺🐾

Monitoring the daily behaviors, appetite, and habits of every rescue in our care is one of the most important parts of what we do. Catching potential concerns early allows us to address issues before they become more serious or cause long term discomfort. πŸ’š

When an animal is under anesthesia for a procedure, it's also a valuable opportunity to update vaccinations and perform a full health check. An important part of sanctuary care is not only providing a safe lifelong home, but also making sure every rescue receives proactive veterinary care so they can stay healthy, comfortable, and thriving for years to come. πŸ’šπŸΎ

We're happy to report that Rio is recovering well! 😺

Cairo Bobcat was rescued from a private owner in Texas, along with three other bobcats. He can be identified by his bold makrings and reddish coat. Cairo is also the most social and vocal bobcat in his enclosure. He has a lot to say, espeically if you take too long with his food.

India Tiger is one of five female tigers that call the sanctuary home. India has lived all over the sanctuary, sometimes on tour and sometimes not. Part of care here at Carolina Tiger Rescue is letting animals choose whether or not they want to see tours! Have you met India before?

Asian Leopard Cats, like Clove, are often bred with domestic cats to create Bengals. This practice exploits wild cats, and the hybrid offspring do not make good pets. Many Bengals end up at sanctuaries because their needs are more complex and their temperaments are more unpredictable than a domestic cat.

This week’s is brought to you by Clover and Tulip Coati. πŸ’š

These two often enjoy spending time together playing and relaxing on their walking platforms. Coatimundis are highly social animals and naturally live in groups called bands, where they rely on each other for safety, communication, and play.

At the sanctuary, these wishlist items help support the dedicated volunteers who care for our animals every day. Especially during North Carolina summers, staying hydrated and energized is an important part of safely caring for the rescues who call the sanctuary home. πŸ’š

πŸ’§ Stay Hydrated

Winston’s rescue is a reminder of why sanctuary matters. After being kept as a private pet and later confiscated, Winston arrived at Carolina Tiger Rescue where he can finally receive the expert care, space, enrichment, and respect every wild bobcat deserves. ❀️

As Winston settles into his new home, our team will continue helping him adjust at his own pace while providing opportunities to engage in the natural instincts and behaviors that make bobcats so special.

Please join us in welcoming the newest rescue at Carolina Tiger Rescue, Winston Bobcat 🐾

If you’d like to support Winston and the many other rescued animals who call Carolina Tiger Rescue home, please consider making a donation through the link on the video. Every contribution helps make rescues like Winston’s possible and gives wild animals in need the safety, dignity, and lifelong sanctuary they deserve. πŸ†βœ¨
