The 12 Collection Centers and Solid Waste & Recycling Main Office will be CLOSED on Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. The Main Office is located at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.

All facilities will open on Tuesday, September 8 at at 7:00 am.

Join us for this family-friendly repair workshop where participants of all ages will learn basic hand-sewing techniques and simple repair skills to mend well-loved plush toys. This workshop is presented in collaboration with Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Art Center and the Waste & Recycling Enthusiast Program (WREP). Volunteers will have sewing machines, hand-sewing supplies, stuffing, and basic repair materials, but participants are also welcome to bring along with their stuffed animals any fabrics, embellishments, or other materials for personal customization. Light snacks, coffee, and tea will be available for participants to enjoy during the workshop.

TALLER DE REPARACIÓN MINI: COSER ANIMALES DE PELUCHE

Únase a nosotros en este taller de reparación familiar donde participantes de todas las edades aprenderán técnicas básicas de costura a mano y habilidades simples de reparación para arreglar juguetes de peluche muy queridos. Este taller se presenta en colaboración con Chatham County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Art Center y el Programa de Entusiastas de Residuos y Reciclaje (WREP). Solid Waste & Recycling is offering mulch for FREE Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Mulch is available at the Solid Waste & Recycling Main Facility- 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.

Vehicles will be loaded with either a small scoop (~1 cubic yard) or a large scoop (~3 cubic yards) depending on the vehicle size. We load, you haul. Visit the website: www.chathamcountync.gov/mulch

⏰ Last Week to Apply!

There's still time to join the Waste & Recycling Enthusiast Program (WREP) but applications close August 1!

Have you ever wondered what really happens to your recycling after it leaves the curb? Curious about how landfills work, why composting matters, or what you can do to reduce waste in your own community? Maybe you're interested in environmental justice, sustainability, or finding meaningful ways to volunteer and make a difference.

WREP is a free, engaging six-week program where you'll learn directly from local experts, explore how Chatham County manages waste and recycling, and discover practical ways to create positive environmental change. Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge, meet others who care about the environment, or become more involved in your community, WREP is for you.

The Solid Waste & Recycling Main Office will be closed on Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday. The Main Office is located at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.

The 12 Collection Centers will be open on Friday but CLOSED on Saturday, July 4th.

All facilities will re-open on Monday, July 6 at 7:00 am.

Maybe you've always wondered:
🚚Where does our trash actually go after it's picked up?
♻ How effective is recycling, and what impact does it really have on the environment?
🍐How does composting work, and is it an effective option for reducing waste?
🤔How can you get involved in local environmental issues through volunteering, education, and community advocacy?

If any of those questions spark your curiosity, the Waste & Recycling Enthusiast Program (WREP) and Waste & Recycling Apprenticeship Program (WRAP) may be for you!

Over six interactive classes, participants will explore topics including:
• Recycling and waste reduction
• Composting and organics management
• Landfills and waste disposal
• Household hazardous waste
• Environmental Justice
• Opportunities to educate others and make a positive impact in the community

Whether you're looking to deepen your own understanding, become a more informed environmental steward, or share what you've learned with others, WREP provides the knowledge and tools to help you make a difference.

And it's not just for adults! High school students are encouraged to apply through WRAP, where they can build environmental knowledge, develop leadership skills, and get involved in meaningful community service.

The 12 Collection Centers and Solid Waste & Recycling Main Office will be closed on Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth. The Main Office is located at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.

The Collection Centers will open on Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 am. The Main Facility will open on Monday, June 22 at 7:00 am.
