What a wonderful week celebrating International Compost Awareness Week with our community!

Over the course of last week, we had the opportunity to connect with residents, gardeners, composters, environmental professionals, families, and community partners through a variety of events focused on composting, soil health, waste reduction, and climate resilience.

Every event from the past week, from a Leaf Litter Critter Lab at Goldston Library to important updates about local composting during our Local Composting Webinar, we were reminded that composting happens at every level and can begin with any age group. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who attended, participated, asked questions, shared experiences, swapped plants, and helped make these events so meaningful. A special thank you goes out to our speakers, volunteers, partners, and supporters who helped make this week possible!

Composting may begin with food scraps and yard waste, but its impact reaches far beyond the compost pile. Healthy soils support healthier plants, help retain water, reduce erosion, support climate resilience, and keep valuable organic material out of the landfill.

Thank you for celebrating International Compost Awareness Week with us and for continuing to support waste reduction and sustainability efforts throughout the year!

And even if you missed our events, you can still check out a recording of our webinar at the following link: https://youtu.be/FJxBlAy5Ul8

A huge thank you to the North Carolina Composting Council for partnering with us at Chatham County Solid Waste and Recycling to host a Sustainable Spirits and Plant Swap during International Compost Awareness Week!

We were so excited to bring together community members from all across different sustainability disciplines (or those just interested in learning more)! We had a wonderful evening of conversation, networking, and community at The Plant in Pittsboro. Special thanks to the Plant for allowing us to use the indoor space of the Wheelhouse, due to weather.

Thank you to everyone who attended, swapped plants, shared ideas, and helped make the evening such a welcoming and engaging event!
