We were honored to once again help kick off the Annual Schmitty Open. Now in its 7th year, the event continues to honor the legacy of Madison Twp. Fire Department Firefighter Joshua Schmidt, who passed away suddenly in 2019.

The JDS Foundation continues to raise funds for charitable giving and to support the Schmidt family. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this special event.

Today marked the final day of a week long Confined Space Rescue course hosted here at the Pittsboro Fire Department.

Throughout the week, members of our department and Plainfield Fire Territory spent time in both the classroom and hands on training environment developing the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as Confined Space Rescue Technicians. These specialized skills are invaluable and strengthen our ability to safely and effectively respond to confined space emergencies within our communities.

We appreciate the hard work of all the students and instructors throughout the week. A special thank you to ADS for their donation of pipe, which was used to create realistic training props and provide students with challenging, hands on scenarios. This donation directly supports our training efforts and is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your support.

We would like to congratulate Captain Kyle Johnson and Lieutenant Jimmie Vogel on completing 20 years of service with the Pittsboro Fire Department.

They began their careers together on August 14, 2006. Twenty years later, both continue to be role models and leaders within our department. Captain Johnson is assigned to B Shift and Lieutenant Vogel is assigned to C Shift.

⭐️Meet the New Hire⭐️

Tyler Madden, 23
Firefighter/EMT

I wanted to join the fire service because every day is different and there is always an opportunity to learn something new. Prior to joining the Pittsboro Fire Department full time, I was an EMT at Putnam County EMS for 4 years. I also spent 2 years as a part time member here at the Pittsboro Fire Department.

I am a graduate of Mooresville High School where I also attended the Area 31 career center to obtain my Firefighter I & II, as well as EMT-B certifications. I have also received certifications as a Surface Water Technician, Ice Rescue Technician, and Rope Rescue Operations.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter. I enjoy watching sports and playing as much golf as possible.

Today, EMS Chief Jeremy Baker and members of B Shift helped make our community safer. Teachers from Bethesda Christian School joined us for hands on skills training and CPR certification renewals.

We’re proud to provide this valuable training and support the safety of our local schools. Thank you to the teachers and staff for their commitment to keeping their students and community safe!👏❤️

Tuesday night’s Fire Board meeting marked two important milestones for our department.

Firefighter/EMT Justin Wright was officially appointed to the position of Engineer. Justin has served our department and community for more than four years. During that time, he has served as a backup engineer while developing the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to excel in this role. Justin will be assigned to A Shift.

The meeting also included a badge pinning welcoming Firefighter/EMT Tyler Madden as the newest member of our department. We are excited to have Tyler join our crew and look forward to him being a part of this great community. Tyler will be assigned to C Shift.

We’re proud to be hosting this District 5 Live Fire Instructor course.

Over the past two weeks, firefighters have been in the classroom preparing for live fire evolutions taking place later this month. We have 6 of our own firefighters attending the course to further their knowledge in live fire instruction.

The class follows NFPA 1403 standards, which ensure live fire training is conducted safely and realistically. It prepares instructors to properly plan, supervise, and manage live fire training with a strong focus on safety, accountability, and fire behavior.

Opportunities like these help our firefighters better serve our community!
