The Friend of Pittsburg Community Schools Award recognizes a dedicated community member whose support and commitment positively impact our district, students, and staff. Presented annually as part of our End-of-Year Awards, this honor celebrates individuals who make a meaningful difference in Pittsburg Community Schools.
Leah Gagnon, Director of the Inspire Health Foundation at the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHCSEK), was nominated and chosen as the Friend of Pittsburg Community Schools 2026. She was nominated by USD 250 staff in two different buildings, a testament to her impact across our district.
For the 4th grade team at Lakeside (Mrs. Maiseroulle, Mrs. Blankenship, and Mrs. Diamond), Gagnon has remained a constant supporter of their many unique learning opportunities.
"One of Leah’s most significant contributions has been her dedication to providing students with opportunities to explore careers in healthcare. Through camps, site visits, classroom presentations, and hands-on learning experiences, she has opened doors for students of all ages. She also provides classrooms with curated learning boxes focused on various body systems, allowing students to engage in meaningful, independent exploration."
She was also nominated by Mrs. Rountree from PHS. "Projects that Leah has coordinated in just the past four months include learning opportunities and workshops for students of all ages, from preschool to 12th grade. For example, in early March, she hosted an Inspiring Women event which gathered high school girls from across the area and connected them with one another as well as with healthcare professionals representing several different fields to show the students that there are so many opportunities in healthcare besides being a doctor or a nurse."
We are incredibly grateful for Leah Gagnon for the unwavering support and dedication she pours into our school community. Our Dragons are fortunate to have someone who cares so deeply about education and continually creates opportunities for students to grow, learn, and succeed. Thank you for making a lasting impact across our district!

Dreaming of sunny summer days ahead! ☀️

A few weeks ago, Westside 4th graders got a taste of summer during their outdoor adventure trip to Greenbush! Students spent the day canoeing, fishing, practicing archery, and making memories together in the great outdoors. Beyond the fun, these activities encouraged teamwork, built confidence, pushed students outside their comfort zones, and taught patience along the way.
We hope your summer is filled with adventure and fun, Dragons!🌤🚣🌳
