Scrappy, Stormi and Sugar were picked up by Pittsburg Animal Control on the 300 Block of Milligan Dr in Pittsburg, TX. They do not have any ID tags or microchip for identification. They are currently being held at the Mount Pleasant Animal Care and Adoption Center. Their owner will need to provide proof of ownership to reclaim. They have been given a DHPP and dewormer.

After 60 years of absence in the United States, the New World Screwworm (Cochliomyia Hominivorax) is slowly moving back into the U.S. and more specifically, Texas! So far, they have made their way as far as Fort Stockton, San Angelo, and Fredericksburg. Consult with your Veterinarian for methods to protect your animals.

New World screwworm (NWS) is a species of parasitic flies that feed on live tissue.

We have been notified by the Animal Protection League that funds to cover Spay and Neuter Discount Vouchers issued from Pittsburg Animal Control have been expended. While Animal Control will no longer be able to issue Vouchers, the Animal Protection League continues to offer Low-Cost Spay/Neuter services through their Walk-In and Mobile Clinics. The Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter has temporarily suspended feline intakes, due to Feline Distemper contamination at their facility. Until such time as they lift the suspension, we will be unable to impound cats.

🚨 Important Shelter Update: Temporary Suspension of Cat Services 🚨

To protect the health and well-being of the cats in our care, the Mount Pleasant Animal Care and Adoption Center will be temporarily suspending all cat and kitten intakes and adoptions for the next 14 days due to concerns regarding feline panleukopenia (feline distemper).

Panleukopenia is a highly contagious viral disease that can be life-threatening, especially for kittens. This temporary pause will allow our staff to carefully monitor our current cat population, complete enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols, and minimize the risk of further exposure.

During this 14-day period:
• Cats and kittens will not be accepted for intake.
• If you find healthy kittens or stray cats, we encourage you to seek assistance from local rescue organizations, utilize community resources, or provide temporary care if possible. Our staff is available to offer guidance and answer questions.

We understand this temporary suspension may be an inconvenience, but these precautions are necessary to protect the health of the animals currently in our care and those that will enter our shelter in the future.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work to provide a safe and healthy environment for the animals we serve. We will share updates as soon as normal cat operations resume.

She is currently being held at the Mount Pleasant Animal Care and Adoption Center. Her owner will be required to show proof of ownership to reclaim her. She has been given a DAPPv and dewormer.

It isn't just about dogs. Sometimes it's about bats! This little fellow (about the size of a half-dollar coin) and two of his siblings were hanging around (literally) on a little bit of tree limb, when the limb decided to break off the tree. All are well and are currently under the care of an Animal Rehab professional.
