Stilwell Hotel

This is the work, up close.
Rooms we found worn down and forgotten are homes again, 27 of her 42 apartments are rented today. 15 are still waiting for their turn.
Every one we finish is a Pittsburg resident with a home in the heart of downtown. That's what restoring her actually means.

A president slept here. So did the Great Commoner.
Theodore Roosevelt, William Jennings Bryan, and Eugene Debs walked these halls. The Stilwell wasn't just a hotel, she was where Pittsburg met the country.
She still is.

10/19/2026

In 1896, Susan B. Anthony stood on this balcony and spoke to Pittsburg.
She wasn't the last voice to carry from this corner, but she may have been the first to understand what this building would mean to this town.
130 years later, the balcony's still here. So is she, in a way.
Follow along, we're telling her story all month.

They've been on guard since 1890.
The carved limestone griffins flanking the HOTEL STILWELL sign have watched Broadway change for 136 years, horse carts to headlights, and everything in between. They don't miss much.
Give them a wave next time you pass 7th & Broadway.

You should've seen some of her rooms when we found them. 😬

Worn down. Forgotten. This short film shows the before, and the after: Stilwell apartments brought back to life and home to Pittsburg seniors again.

This is the work, and it's just getting started. Watch it, share it, and mark Nov 9–13: Match Week, when every gift that keeps her restoration going is matched. 💛

She's online. 💛

For 136 years, the Stilwell has stood at 7th & Broadway — hosting presidents, welcoming home generations of Pittsburg families, and watching Broadway change around her. Susan B. Anthony spoke from her balcony. Teddy Roosevelt slept under her roof.

Now the old girl has a brand-new home on the internet: stilwellhotelks.com
