My office has been receiving calls and messages from residents concerned about overgrown and neglected properties throughout District 2.

I have been working with the Mayor’s Office to identify ways we can address some of these problem properties, including utilizing the City’s Clean and Lien Program. Through this program, the City can clean qualifying privately owned properties and place a lien on the property to recover the cost.

I’m happy to share that, as part of the first round, we were able to have the following properties in our district cleaned up:

* 522 W. Prospect Avenue

I know this program is not the complete solution to the challenges we face with vacant, abandoned, and neglected properties. However, it is another tool we can use to improve conditions, address quality-of-life concerns, and continue working toward cleaner and safer neighborhoods throughout District 2.

Thank you to the Mayor’s Office and City staff who worked with my office to get these properties addressed. We will continue identifying problem properties and advocating for every available resource to help clean up our neighborhoods.

What a wonderful evening at Broadway at the Overlook!

It was great to spend the evening at the West End Overlook enjoying another incredible performance by Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Each year, PMT brings Broadway to one of the most beautiful spots in our city, giving the community a special preview of its upcoming season.

I’m always proud to see events like this happening right here in District 2 and bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy everything our neighborhoods have to offer.

Broadway at the Overlook is completely FREE and continues throughout the rest of the weekend, so there is still time to come out and enjoy the performances and that incredible Pittsburgh view!

Pittsburgh Water Service Update – Steuben Street & Chartiers Avenue

I received notification late this afternoon that Pittsburgh Water identified a leak on Steuben Street during work taking place in the area over the past few days.

Water service in the affected area was scheduled to be shut off beginning at approximately 4:00 PM today, with service hopefully being restored later this evening. Pittsburgh Water has indicated that they reached out directly to households expected to be affected by the shutoff.

Residents should also expect continued work throughout the week along Chartiers Avenue, including restoration work related to the water main break that occurred on Sunday.

Today marked an exciting milestone for the Washington Heights Ecumenical Food Bank and the Mt. Washington community as we celebrated the ribbon cutting for its new permanent home at 6 Boggs Avenue!

This project is especially significant because 6 Boggs Avenue was the first building purchased through the Pittsburgh Land Bank. What was once a vacant property has been transformed into a community asset that will help the Food Bank continue its important mission of serving our neighbors for years to come.

This is a wonderful success story for the Pittsburgh Land Bank and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and a great example of what can happen when community organizations, public partners, volunteers, and residents work together toward a shared goal.

Thank you to the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation, the Washington Heights Ecumenical Food Bank, the Land Bank, the URA, and everyone who donated, volunteered, provided funding, or worked behind the scenes to make this project possible.

I was sorry that I could not attend today’s celebration in person, but I want to give a special thank you to my Chief of Staff, Leigh Ann Wilson, for attending on my behalf and helping celebrate this important moment with the community.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing 6 Boggs Avenue back to life and giving it a new purpose serving our neighbors!
