The first-ever Citizens Fire Academy concluded this week with a celebration and graduation!
Over seven weeks, participants gained firsthand insight into the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the vital role firefighters play in keeping the community safe. Through hands-on instruction, participants earned their CPR certification, learned about the Fireboat operations, took part in live-fire training, and experienced the teamwork required to protect the city.
Acting Chief of Fire Mat Davis congratulated the graduates and emphasized the importance of continued community engagement, saying: “Today you all are the first Citizens Fire Academy graduates. Tomorrow you are ambassadors of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the City of Pittsburgh. Under my leadership, we will continue to build relationships, increase awareness, and share the importance of fire safety.”
Public Safety Director Sheldon Williams also recognized the value of the experience, sharing: “Through this inaugural academy, you’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the work our public safety professionals do every day to serve our community. Importantly, I hope you’ll carry the impact of this experience forward and help us continue building a safer, stronger Pittsburgh for all.”
Congratulations to the graduates of the first Citizens Fire Academy!
Thank you to the Pittsburgh Fire Fighters for hosting the event at the union hall.
