Monday evening, I was honored to offer the official welcome to clergy, delegates, and honored guests in attendance for the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention’s 135th Annual Session. We are in a season that calls for stronger partnerships with our faith leaders to help light the way through these tumultuous, uncertain, and volatile times. Since taking office, I have been committed to intentionally being in community with our faith leaders. I believe our community is strongest when our civic and faith leaders work in alignment, strategically, effectively, and, most importantly, visibly. I look forward to the transformational work we can accomplish for the people we all are so blessed to serve in our respective capacities.

Today’s is The Point Breeze Organization’s (PBO) Fall Festival happening this Saturday, October 18, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The free, family-friendly neighborhood event will take place at the Sterrett Academy field. The festival features live music, local food trucks, a s'mores making station, and interactive arts and crafts for kids. Free tractor hayrides will run through the adjacent Homewood Cemetery. Entry is entirely free and open to all neighborhood residents and families. The event is supported by local pet supply store Petaggy. The festival grounds are located at the school athletic fields along South Lang Avenue.

It is with a heavy heart that I extend my most profound condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Nancy Washington.

Nancy was a close family friend and a pillar of the Pittsburgh community—a devoted advocate, a thoughtful leader, and a compassionate presence whose dedication touched countless lives across our city. Her tireless commitment to uplifting others, advocating for progress, and fostering genuine connection left an indelible mark on Pittsburgh.

Her legacy is one of unwavering service, integrity, and warmth. Knowing Nancy meant being in community with someone who cared deeply about her neighbors' well-being and worked every day to make our community more just and welcoming for all.

On behalf of the District 9 office, we share in your grief and hold you close in our thoughts during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the rich memories of her life, strength in the community that surrounds you, and peace in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
