Night of the Living Compost is back Saturday, Oct 24, 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Hazelwood Food Recycling Site, 4501 Sylvan Ave! It's the fifth annual Halloween fundraiser for the site that has turned 100,000 lbs of food scraps into soil in a year.

On October 22 at 5pm, join artists Jaime Guerrero, James Simon, and Rob Long to learn about their conceptual design for artwork commissioned by the University of Pittsburgh for the BioForge building at Hazelwood Green. The artists will have samples of the materials and talk about their creative process. All are welcome, and the event is free to attend!

Join Rent Help PGH on Wednesday, October 14 at the Waterfront for the One Roof Housing Resource Fair, bringing housing, legal, employment, education, health care, and other resources together in one place for Allegheny County residents.

The event will also include a community listening session where renters can share the complex challenges they experience finding, affording, and keeping a home in Allegheny County, followed by a Service Provider Summit on October 15 to turn what they hear into stronger partnerships and a stronger housing safety net.

Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh is hosting an upcoming Listening Session in Hazelwood for neighbors of all ages, in partnership with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Participants will be asked what makes your community a good place for all ages, how connected you feel to neighbors, and what changes you would want to make in your community.

The Listening Session is on Saturday, October 10, 1-2pm at the Hazelwood Carnegie Library (5006 Second Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15207). Refreshments will be provided, and participants can enter to win a Block Party Box (gift card and party supplies). All ages welcome! RSVP here.

Can't make it? Stop by the Hazelwood Carnegie Library any time between now and October 20 to explore the Picture This exhibition that celebrates the richness of aging in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh (DSAP) will hold their annual Pittsburgh Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hazelwood Green.

The Buddy Walk is a celebration of people with Down syndrome and their families — a day of music, activities, and community. For the second year in a row, DSAP is partnering with Lion of Judah Enterprises, an organization that supports black and brown individuals with Down syndrome.
