A little bit of Pittsburgh is down south!

The City has gifted a Pittsburgh flag to be signed by the crew members of the Ingalls Shipyard, who are building the next USS Pittsburgh.

Our flag traces its history to Sir William Pitt and is the source of our black and gold colors.

Pittsburgh is one of the first 15 cities in the country selected for Bloomberg Philanthropies' new housing initiative!

We've been making great progress this year modernizing our permitting system to make it easier to build homes and grow small businesses. Now, with new funding and expertise from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Accelerator for America and Public Digital, we'll build on that work by bringing proven strategies from San Diego to Pittsburgh to further streamline approvals, cut through red tape and unlock opportunities to build more housing in our neighborhoods.

Starting the school day on the right foot!

Students and families across the city celebrated Walk & Roll to School Day, highlighting the importance of safe routes to school, traffic safety, alternative forms of transportation and overall road accessibility.

For six years, our Pittsburgh Mobility and Infrastructure Safe Routes to School program has brought schools across the city together each spring and fall to promote safer, more accessible ways to get to class — with a little friendly competition for the Golden Sneaker and Golden Bike awards along the way!

Thank you to Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, Bike Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Public Schools, other local schools, A+ Schools - and special guests Steely McBeam and the Pirate Parrot - for joining today‘s events and helping everyone get to school safely — however they got there!

As of October 1, our residential lead service line replacement program is about 88% complete, and our goal of finishing the remaining work by the end of 2027 is within reach!
