📚JOHNSTOWN: Join us this Sunday, August 9th in Johnstown for a special study session on the origins of Black August, honored every year to commemorate the fallen freedom fighters of the Black Liberation Movement, to call for the release of political prisoners in the United States, to condemn the oppressive conditions of U.S. prisons, and to emphasize the continued importance of the Black Liberation struggle.

No prior reading or attendance required, and study materials will be provided!

📓 THURSDAY 8/13: Join us at the Pittsburgh Liberation Center for a talk by Dr. Melissa Ford on the History of Radical Organizing in Pittsburgh, as part of our commemoration of Black August!

On Thursday 8/13, we will welcome Dr. Melissa Ford, PhD, Associate Professor of History at Slippery Rock University to give a presentation on radical organizing roots in Pittsburgh, similar struggles in the Midwest, and how we can learn from and connect that history to the organizing we do today.

This event is put on to honor Black August, a month of observance and commemoration of Black political prisoners and Black freedom struggles in the U.S. and beyond.

This event will be in person. We hope you can join us!

JOHNSTOWN: Join us this Sunday, July 12th in Johnstown for our monthly study group of the book Socialist Reconstruction: A Better Future for the United States, a publication of the Party for Socialism & Liberation! We will be discussing and how our real heritage is the People’s Struggle!

What would it look like to build a socialist society in the United States? To end the US’s imperialist exploits, eliminate poverty, racism and bigotry, and utilize the wealth and development of modern society for the good of the people? Socialist Reconstruction: A Better Future for the United States envisions this future. It picks up in “the first decade of socialism in the United States,” and describes what socialism could mean for housing, healthcare, education, public safety and many othe aspects of US society.

No prior reading or attendance required, and study materials will be provided! Copies of the book will be available for reading together in person, and copies will also be available for purchase.

🇵🇸 On 6/25, we held a screening of the new Palestine documentary film “Seeds for Liberation”, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Palestine Solidarity Committee and hosted by Khalil’s Restaurant. The film situates Palestinian liberation within a broad legacy of anti-imperialist movements, to ask, “how do our struggles for justice grow from the same seed?”

We are pleased to say that proceeds from this event exceeded $1,000 and have been donated to the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), providing emergency support to children & families in Gaza. We are tremendously thankful to our community in Pittsburgh for attending and supporting this event and cause. Thank you!

We invite you to continue to uphold the Palestinian liberation struggle in any ways you can - support this film’s campaign (seedsforliberationmovie.com), share and attend local Palestine solidarity events, speak to our organizers, and join in the movement. As has been taught in all struggles for liberation from oppression, colonialism, and imperialism: no one is free until we are all free.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ This Pride Month, we celebrated q***r art and creativity at a q***r culture night and art show in the Pittsburgh Liberation Center! We worked with local artists and creators to present paintings and poetry that celebrate the determination for q***r liberation and honor those who have struggled and are struggling for liberation.

We thank all those who participated, and we encourage you to follow this page for more community events!
