Allegheny County Conservation District

Allegheny County Conservation District Your Partner for Soil and Water Conservation What is a conservation district?

The District offers services and programs to residents through its Conservation Solution Center which houses four unique focuses: Watersheds, Soils, Stormwater, and Agriculture. ACCD was founded in 1945 by Pennsylvania State legislation, ACT 217 which reads:

It is hereby declared to be the policy of the Commonwealth to provide for the conservation of the soil, water, and related resources of this

Commonwealth, and for the control and prevention of soil erosion, and thereby to preserve natural resources; assist in the control of floods; prevent impairment of dams and reservoirs; assist in maintaining the navigability of rivers and harbors; preserve wildlife; preserve the tax base; protect public lands; and protect and promote the health, safety and general welfare of the people of the Commonwealth.

Over the past two years, the PGH2050 Comprehensive Plan has been shaped by Pittsburghers, and there’s still time to make your voice heard.

The September workshops will be one of the final opportunities for residents and stakeholders to provide critical feedback on the draft plan before revisions are applied and the plan moves into the approval and adoption process.

On National Intern Day, we're celebrating the hard work and curiosity Lucy brought to ACCD from Franco Harris Pittsburgh Center at Penn State. 🌿 She spent the summer in the field collecting soil samples across the city and helping growers navigate soil health challenges.
