Office of the Allegheny County Executive The mission of the Office of the Allegheny County Executive is to exercise the powers and duties granted under the county's Home Rule Charter.

Sara Innamorato was sworn in as the Allegheny County Executive on January 2, 2024. The Innamorato Administration’s guiding principle is to build a strong Allegheny County for All – one that serves the more than 1.2 million residents of Allegheny County – built on a foundation of dignity and respect. One signature initiative of the administration is “500 in 500” In June 2024, Innamorato announced ‘500 in 500,’ an ambitious plan to move people experiencing homelessness into stable housing. The program has been a success: by day 500, more than 600 people had been housed, and more than 500 housing units had been identified. Innamorato has also prioritized economic development initiatives by investing in business development, improvements to business districts and main streets. In 2025, she launched the County’s new comprehensive plan, Allegheny Forward. Prior to becoming County Executive, Innamorato served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 21st house district. Sara is a lifelong resident of Allegheny County and currently resides in Wilkinsburg. She is a graduate of North Hills High School and the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration.

Hidden Histories | Episode 2

What if I told you one of the biggest breakthroughs in the fight against polio happened right here in our region?

I stopped by the Heinz History Center to learn more about the D.T. Watson Home and the incredible story behind it.

In 1952, Jonas Salk came to the Watson Home in Sewickley to test what would become the first successful polio vaccine. Thirty children volunteered to participate, knowing the vaccine was still untested.
Their courage helped change the course of public health forever.

That’s what I love about the Hidden Histories map. It reminds us that some of the most important stories in our region are right in our own backyard.

There is so much history here. We just have to take the time to look for it.

The Watson Home and the 1952 polio vaccine trial are documented in the Pittsburgh Magazine Hidden Histories feature.

I was proud to stand with Allegheny County Council to sign “Banning Data Centers on County Owned Property." This ordinance prohibits the establishment, construction, or operation of Large Load Data Centers, as well as related supportive infrastructure developed as part of the same project, on County-owned property.

This policy reflects a commitment to responsible stewardship of public land, protecting County assets and the environment for current and future generations while taking tangible steps to address reasonable public concerns about speculative or irresponsible development.
