On April 4, 2009, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police lost three of its own - Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle, and Paul Sciullo - in the line of duty.

On that same day, officers gained Max and Sue Sciullo, Paul's parents, as the adopted parents of the entire Bureau of Police.

Sadly, Sue passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, after suffering a stroke. She was 79 years old.

The Sciullo family has remained close to so many Pittsburgh Police members over the years; attending events, stopping by Zone 5 for holiday parties, even hosting many of the PBP family at their home in Bloomfield for visits over the years.

"I've often commented to the Sciullo's that they lost one very special member of their family but gained 800 new ones. Both Sue and Max have been the department's biggest supporters and cheerleaders over the years, in spite of losing their beloved son Paul. We will continue to support the Sciullo family in their time of need and keep them in our thoughts and prayers," said Chief Jason Lando.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Padre Pio Parish (formerly St. Augustine's), located at 225 37th Street in Lawrenceville.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police held another successful Youth Connections session with students at Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill.

The program focuses on building strong, positive relationships between officers and youth through direct engagement. Officers dress in everyday attire rather than in their uniforms to create a relaxed environment for the children.

Want to bring this experience to your students? We’d love to visit! Contact Sgt. Celender at [email protected]. Please note: Schools must be located within the City of Pittsburgh limits.
