Big news for health and nutrition in Southwestern Pennsylvania! 🍎🏥

We are thrilled to announce that Hunger-Free Pennsylvania has been awarded a $20,000 grant from The Heinz Endowments to support our "Food as Health Care" initiative!

This isn't just about charity; it’s about changing how we approach medicine. This funding will help us integrate food and nutrition directly into the health care system across southwestern Pennsylvania.

🥦 🫘 By treating nutrition as a fundamental part of clinical care, we are working to prevent disease, improve lives, and reduce long-term health care costs for everyone.

The initiative is expected to improve care delivery, address social determinants of health, and help establish food-based interventions as a permanent feature of Pennsylvania’s health care system.

📣Taking the fight against hunger to Washington, D.C.!

Last week, Hunger-Free Pennsylvania was proud to lead the dedicated contingent of anti-hunger advocates from across the commonwealth at the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) Conference and Lobby Day.

🏛️The FRAC National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference brings together SNAP supporters and food security champions working to strengthen food programs, expand access to healthy school meals for all, and support WIC and more.

🧡 Hunger-Free PA’s CEO, Stuart Haniff, said, "I'm here, once again this year, with Pennsylvania food banks and the rest of our charitable food network to expand the reach of federal food programs. We need stronger food policies—putting people first and pushing for meaningful change. Food is a basic human right, and hunger is a solvable problem.”
