Lithium Battery Fire

This evening at approximately 9:15 PM, 163 Engine 1 and 163 Truck responded to the DoubleTree Hotel for a report of an exploding lithium battery pack.

Upon arrival, crews located the battery pack, which had exploded and self-extinguished, leaving smoke on the floor. Engine crews ventilated the affected area and safely removed the battery from the building, placing it in a bucket of water to help prevent thermal runaway.

Battery Safety Reminder: Always inspect your battery-powered devices for damage, use and charge batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and never ignore signs of overheating, swelling, or unusual odors. Proper battery care can help prevent fires and injuries.

Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. For more info: https://nfpa.social/47nmeUJ

This year’s focus is safe charging. With more rechargeable batteries in our homes, it’s important to charge them safely and know the warning signs of a battery problem.

Thank you to everyone who came out today, even with the weather looking a little sketchy! We had an absolute blast seeing everyone who stopped by the truck to say hello and check things out.

And speaking of blasts… what would Oktoberfest be without some fireworks and a few fire truck photos?!

We appreciate everyone who came out and made today such a great event. Thank you for your continued support of Green Tree VFC!
