💧 HYDRANT FLUSHING UPDATE – WEEK OF AUGUST 17

West View Water Authority crews will continue our routine hydrant flushing program this week in portions of our service area.

Crews are scheduled to be working in the following communities and areas:

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining our water distribution system. It helps remove naturally occurring sediment from water mains while also allowing our crews to exercise and inspect hydrants throughout the system.

Customers in and around flushing areas may temporarily experience lower water pressure or discoloration. If you notice discolored water, allow your cold water to run for several minutes until it clears before using it for drinking, cooking or laundry.

Flushing schedules may change based on weather, emergencies or other operational needs.

Hydrant flushing is one of the many proactive measures WVWA takes to boost water quality and pressure, remove harmless minerals, and keep hydrants fire ready.

West View Water Authority (WVWA) was pleased to welcome Senator Devlin Robinson this week to visit and tour of our system operations. We had the opportunity to tour our Neville Island Water Treatment Plant.

These visits are an important part of WVWA’s ongoing efforts to work collaboratively with our elected officials to help showcase the critical work being performed every single day by our team. From maintaining and upgrading aging infrastructure to navigating operational and regulatory challenges, it is important that policymakers see firsthand what it takes to reliably deliver safe, high-quality drinking water to our communities.

Most importantly, the visit highlighted the tremendous responsibility of producing and delivering millions of gallons of water each day to the residents, businesses, and communities we proudly serve throughout the region.

We appreciate Senator Robinson taking the time to visit with our staff, learn more about our operations, and continue the conversation surrounding infrastructure investment, public utilities, and the future of water service in Western Pennsylvania.

This week, West View Water Authority is beginning our annual hydrant flushing program, starting today, Monday, April 20, across our service area.

This routine maintenance is a critical part of maintaining a safe and reliable water system. Hydrant flushing helps improve water circulation, remove sediment from water mains, maintain water quality, and reduce the potential for disinfection byproducts such as total trihalomethanes (THMs).

While it may look like a large amount of water being released, this process plays an important role in ensuring proper system performance, water clarity, and fire protection capabilities.

As crews begin flushing in your area, you may notice:

Temporary water discoloration
Slightly lower water pressure

As we wrap up the week, West View Water Authority remains focused on delivering safe, reliable water service to the communities we serve.

Beginning Monday, April 20, we will start our annual hydrant flushing program across our service area.

While it may look like a lot of water being released, hydrant flushing is a critical and routine part of maintaining a safe and reliable water system—helping to ensure proper flow, pressure, and water quality throughout the distribution system .

This important maintenance process helps:

Improve water circulation throughout the system
Remove sediment and mineral buildup from water mains
Maintain water quality and clarity
Reduce the potential for disinfection byproducts, including total trihalomethanes (THMs)
