‼️As many of you know, the FCC is currently considering eliminating E-Rate funding. This would be devastating to schools and libraries across the country and we need to let our elected officials know the cost it would have to Allegheny County libraries. 🏫📚

Currently, E-rate saves Allegheny County libraries over $800,000 per year. E-rate helps us to provide quality internet access to our patrons and staff. Elimination of E-rate not only would result in sharp increases in costs to provide internet, but that money would need to come from somewhere, meaning less funding potentially available for resources and programs.

But, there is still time to help. We are currently in a public comment period where we have the opportunity to let the FCC know how vital E-rate is to the survival of schools and libraries across the country. I encourage you (and everyone you know) to make a comment and include details and stories about how important quality internet access is to all of our communities. Be sure to include what would be lost if this funding were to go away.

I also encourage you to reach out to your federal representatives and senators to let them know about what the loss of E-rate would mean to our communities. 📱Important to note that E-rate is NOT funded by taxpayer dollars. E-rate is funded through the telecommunications companies (usually found on your bill as the Universal Service Fee or something similar).
