Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.

For mothers, recovery can mean working toward sobriety while also rebuilding relationships, strengthening parenting skills, addressing trauma, caring for children, and preparing for a more stable future.

At Sojourner House, mothers can receive residential substance use treatment while their children live with them.

Because when families have the opportunity to heal together, recovery can reach across generations.

September is National Recovery Month — a time to celebrate recovery, recognize the people who make it possible, and remind our community that recovery is real.

At Sojourner House, we see every day how recovery can transform more than one life. When a mother has access to treatment, stability, compassion, and the opportunity to remain with her children, an entire family has the chance to heal.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing stories, resources, opportunities to get involved, and reminders of one message we believe deeply:

Recovery Changes Everything.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost to overdose, hold close the families and communities carrying that grief, and stand with those whose lives have been changed by substance use.

We also recognize that every life lost represents a person — a parent, child, sibling, friend, neighbor, or loved one whose story mattered.

At Sojourner House, we believe remembrance must also be paired with hope and action. By reducing stigma, expanding access to treatment, supporting harm reduction, and ensuring families can find compassionate care when they are ready, we can help save lives.

Today, we remember those we have lost. We support those who are grieving. And we continue working toward a future where more people have the opportunity to recover.

💜 Recovery is possible. Every life is worth saving.

A successful school year starts with more than backpacks, notebooks, and pencils. 💜

For children and families impacted by substance use, having the right support can make a meaningful difference — at home, at school, and in the community.

At Sojourner House, we know that recovery affects the whole family. When mothers have access to compassionate substance use treatment and families have the stability and support they need, children have a stronger foundation to learn, grow, and thrive.

As students head back to school, let’s remember that supporting families in recovery is also an investment in their children’s futures.

Recovery changes families. Recovery changes futures. Recovery changes everything.

Recovery doesn’t happen alone. 💜

Every day, a community surrounds the mothers and children at Sojourner House.

It’s the volunteer who gives a few hours of their Saturday.
The donor who helps provide an essential need.
The community partner who connects a family with resources.
The staff member who shows up with compassion, encouragement, and care.

Each act may feel small on its own. Together, they help create a place where families can heal, grow, and begin again.

Thank you for being part of a community that believes recovery is possible.

A little Saturday teamwork made a BIG difference! 💚

A huge thank you to the wonderful group of volunteers who spent part of their Saturday helping spruce up the Sojourner House MOMS Green Play Yard!

Our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to paint and clean up the colorful tires in the play yard, helping make the space brighter and more welcoming for the children and families we serve.

Projects like this may seem simple, but they help create spaces where children can play, grow, and just be kids while their families work toward stability and recovery.

We’re so grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to make our play yard shine! 🌿🎨

September is National Recovery Month : and in our community, recovery is so much more than a word. 💜

It's hope. It's second chances. It's the courage to show up and the love of a community that refuses to let anyone walk alone.

We'd love to hear from YOU: what does recovery mean to you? Whether it's healing from addiction, re-entering society after incarceration, or finding a safe space to grieve : share your definition below. 👇

And if you want to experience what community-wide recovery looks like in action, join Za'kiyah House, Sojourner House, and Crossroads at Recovery on Frankstown on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 12pm to 4pm. Let's heal together!

Sometimes making a difference looks like rolling up your sleeves and getting to work.

During our recent Summer Refresh at Sojourner House, 17 volunteers gave a combined 31 hours to help make our spaces more welcoming for the mothers and children we serve.

They organized donations, restocked apartments, washed walls, and tackled the behind-the-scenes work that helps our programs run every day.

Those 31 hours mean more than clean walls and organized shelves. They mean our staff can spend more time focused on families. They mean mothers can enter spaces that feel cared for and welcoming. And they remind our families that there is a community behind them.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time. 💙

Recovery takes a community—and we’re grateful you’re part of ours.
