Today, the URA and City of Pittsburgh announced a $600,000 investment to renovate eight façades in the East Ohio Street business district as part of Mayor Corey O'Connor's Main & Main Initiative. With a $100,000 strategic grant from the URA, local firm East Ohio Capital will add $500,000 of private investment to beautify one of Pittsburgh's vital main streets.

“Having invested in the Northside since 2010 and keeping a personal residence on nearby Tripoli Street, we long saw the potential for East Ohio Street to be something special. With 3 more restaurants, plus a bakery committed to our storefronts, and 3 more commercial spaces to lease, we are excited to realize our vision by building on our total investment of over $10 million in making East Ohio Street Pittsburgh’s ‘Restaurant Row,’" said Matt Hicks, owner of East Ohio Capital.

The URA funding is made possible by a partnership with Henry L. Hillman Foundation.

Our Main & Main initiative is about investing in the success of our neighborhood business districts and today we announced a partnership with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and East Ohio Capital to invest $600,000 to improve 8 façades on East Ohio Street.

Earlier this month, we announced that Main & Main will renovate 77 small business façades across the city - and now this new partnership will help create new opportunities for small businesses and bring new vibrancy to the East Ohio Street business district.

Pittsburgh Urban Initiatives (PUI), the URA's affiliate Community Development Entity, has invested $12 million in New Markets Tax Credit allocation to support construction of the Wilford A. Payne Medical Center in Homewood.

The investment marks PUI’s first closing from its record-high $60 million NMTC allocation awarded by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in December 2025.

"PUI is thrilled to support this transformative development, which will improve the lives of City of Pittsburgh residents and families," said Rebecca Davidson-Wagner, PUI President and URA Chief Lending and Investment Officer. "The NMTC program remains a powerful tool. For Primary Care Health Services Inc., it was able to leverage extraordinary fundraising efforts and fill the final gap in their project. "

The Wilford A. Payne Medical Center complements other URA investments in Homewood, including more than $1.9 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding to support the remediation and redevelopment of 13 publicly owned properties along the North Homewood Avenue business corridor and more than $6.4 million committed toward the 44-unit Homewood Gateway residential development.
