This week, we pause to honor and remember our very own friend and colleague, CMUPD Officer James E. Simonetti (EOW 10-13-21). Officer Simonetti dedicated himself to keeping our campus safe, leaving behind a legacy defined by courage, compassion, and selfless service.

We remain deeply grateful for his service, and our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and fellow officers throughout this week. His memory will always remain a cherished part of the community he cared for so deeply.

It was great to see so many families and friends visiting campus and enjoying time with the CMU community. We're grateful for a safe and successful weekend and want to thank everyone who helped make Family Day great!

Celebrating Sgt. Thomas Ianachione’s Career and Retirement this week!

Before joining CMUPD, Sgt. Ianachione served the Allegheny County Police Department for more than 25 years. He began his career there on September 1, 1992, and took on a variety of assignments throughout his service. He conducted numerous investigations, served as a member of the department’s SWAT team, and rose to the rank of lieutenant.

Since joining CMUPD in 2018, Sgt. Ianachione has continued to bring that depth of experience and commitment to our department. As a patrol sergeant, he supported officers in the field and helped guide the work of the patrol team. He also served as a defensive tactics instructor and supervised the fi****ms training unit, sharing his knowledge and helping prepare officers to meet the demands of the job.

As Sgt. Ianachione retires from CMUPD, we’re proud to recognize the many years of service he has dedicated to public safety and the communities he served.

We are grateful for his leadership, expertise, and lasting contributions to our department. Congratulations on a well-deserved retirement, Sgt. Ianachione. You will be greatly missed by everyone at CMUPD.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for the Beeler Street Meet & Greet! 🍕🏡

It was great bringing together Beeler Street Residents, CMU Students, and members of the community for an evening of food and conversation.

We appreciated the opportunity to talk about the importance of being good neighbors, looking out for one another, and continuing to build a strong and welcoming community together.

A special thank you to our community partners, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 4, CMU Fraternity & Sorority Life, and CMU Community Life, for helping make the event a success!

CMUPD would like to thank everyone who joined us for our annual Scotty’s Sizzle with CMUPD and other local law enforcement!

This year, we fired up the grills and served more than 860 hot dogs to members of the Carnegie Mellon community. It was a great opportunity to share some food, and community spirit with students, faculty, staff, and our local public safety partners.

A special thank you to our community partners Chartwells CMU, Sewickley Borough Police Department, and the Veterans Affairs Police in Pittsburgh for helping make this year’s event even better.

We appreciate everyone who stopped by, helped out, and spent time with us. We’re already looking forward to doing it again.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

CMUPD joins communities across the nation in remembering the victims whose lives were lost and honoring the first responders, heroes, and K9 teams who answered the call with extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their bravery, service, and memory continue to inspire us.

We will never forget.

As higher education security continues to evolve, CMUPD remains committed to sharing best practices across the safety landscape. Lisa Poltar-McCrimmon, Manager of Integrated Security Services (ISS) a division of CMUPD. Lisa will be speaking at the upcoming Security Industry Association (SIA) Vertical Insights: Higher Education Security Symposium today.

Drawing on her specialized credentials in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM), Lisa will discuss proactive threat mitigation and physical security strategies designed for academic environments.
