Allegheny County is considering making 18 weeks of Paid Parental Leave mandatory countywide.

We know that paid parental leave reduces infant and maternal mortality, protects maternal mental health, and supports physical recovery and healing. Too many families are forced back to work before they are medically ready because they can't afford to stay home.

This is a step in lowering our maternal mortality rate and protecting our working families.

The Allegheny County Health Department is hosting an in-person hearing TOMORROW, June 2 at 5:30 to hear public comment. If you can't attend tomorrow, public comments are accepted online through June 13.

ATTENTION! Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is hosting in-person hearings in Ross Township this Wednesday, June 3 at 1 PM and 6 PM.

I‘m grateful to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) for honoring my request to hold an in-person public hearing within Senate District 38 on Wednesday, June 3 at the Ross Township Community Center. You deserve the chance to make your voice heard in person about Peoples Natural Gas's proposal to increase rates $163 million-- or about 13.8%.

Like others across the Commonwealth, people here have borne the burden of multiple rate increases from Peoples Natural Gas, most recently in 2024. As families continue to grapple with rising costs, increased instability at the federal level, and continued attempts to cut human services programs, these routine rate increases are pushing basic needs further out of reach. I encourage everyone to testify at next week's rate hearings, whether in person or by telephone.

I had the chance to join the Brackenridge, Borough of Etna, and Borough of Sharpsburg communities yesterday to honor those military members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
