Each year, the 10.27 Healing Partnership creates an intentional space to honor in spirit and in action the eleven people who were killed in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting on October 27, 2018. Through commemorative acts of volunteering, we will build connections and bring light into our communities while uplifting their memories and legacies.

JFCS is honored to work with the 10.27 Healing Partnership to host a volunteering opportunity. Join us to create no-sew blankets and hygiene kits for the individuals JFCS serves on October 25 from 10-11:30 am. The program will be held at the JFCS Office at 5743 Bartlett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

In July, we shared that JFCS joined a federal lawsuit in Pennsylvania to help ensure immigration courts follow the law and uphold the legal protections guaranteed to unaccompanied children who have experienced trafficking, abuse, abandonment, or persecution in their countries of origin.

Since then, our concerns have only grown. More children have received unlawful deportation orders, and the need for action has become even more urgent. Our attorneys continue to work tirelessly to defend the children we represent, but individual representation alone cannot solve what has become a systemic problem.

Therefore, last week, we joined a second federal lawsuit alongside organizations across the country. We are taking this extraordinary step to help ensure that unaccompanied children in Pennsylvania and nationwide receive the due process and protections they are guaranteed by law.
