As of 9:30 am on September 4, 2026, power is out for more than 22,000 residents according to the DLC Outage Map. Some of those power outages began around 6:30 pm last evening.

All Allegheny County Residents should consider food safety during and after a power outage.

Throw out any food with an unusual color, odor, or texture. Never taste food to determine if it is safe to eat. When in doubt, throw it out!

Public health is not just about what services we provide. It is also about whether people can actually access them.

Today, the Allegheny County Health Department celebrated the renovation of our McKeesport office at 339 Fifth Avenue, an investment in access, dignity and the future of the community.

The modernized facility brings multiple public health services together under one roof, including:
• WIC
• Pediatric dental care
• Sexual health services
• Drug screening
• Plumbing services

But the most important part of this investment is what happens beyond the walls of the building.

A parent should not have to struggle with a stroller just to reach a public health service. An older adult should be able to enter comfortably. A person with a mobility challenge should be able to navigate a public facility independently.

That is what accessible public health looks like in real life.

“Public health is strongest when it is accessible, welcoming and rooted in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Iulia Vann, Director of the Allegheny County Health Department.
“This investment is about making sure that families can access essential services without unnecessary barriers and that McKeesport knows that Allegheny County is invested in its health and its future.”

This ribbon cutting is more than the opening of a renovated building. It represents a renewed commitment to bringing public health closer to the people we serve and ensuring that geography, outdated facilities or accessibility barriers do not stand between residents and essential services.

Investing in public health means investing in the places where public health happens.

🎃☕ Pumpkin spice season is officially here, and so is the WIC Mobile Clinic!

We’re rolling into September with all the fall vibes to help families feel healthy, supported, and ready for the season ahead.

🦟 The Allegheny County Health Department will be treating Elliott, Crafton Heights, Sheraden, Chartiers, Esplen, and Brighton Heights for mosquitoes. Positive tests for West Nile Virus were recently found in those areas. Share this with anyone you know in those neighborhoods.

📆 Crews will use a truck mounted sprayer on Wednesday, September 2, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., to lower the local mosquito population and minimize the risk of human disease transmission.

💦 The pesticide used is called Zenivex E20. It is among the safest approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and considered low risk to people, pets, pollinators, and wildlife.
