Please take not of this closure. This weekend will feature the first of four planned closures on the Norhtbound lanes of the I-79 Neville Island Bridge. Again, this affects the Northbound side. The closure is scheduled to begin on Friday night, July 9, at 8 p.m., and last through Monday morning, July 12, at 5 a.m.

A reminder about a major traffic issue this weekend!!

The schedule works includes bridge and roadway concrete repairs, roadway patching, strip seal replacements, bridge jacking for steel repair, bridge painting and barrier spall repairs.

A Northbound traffic will be detoured. Beginning at approximately 8 p.m. Friday, the Pennsylvania State Police will commence a "slow roll" of northbound I-79 traffic at the Crafton/Moon Run (Exit 60) interchange, and will then proceed to direct all traffic to the detour route. The detour route will take traffic off of the Coraopolis--McKees Rocks exit, onto Route 51 and through Coraopolis to the Sewickley Bridge, and then back along Route 65 to Interstate 79.

There are various detour options. For example, anyone heading Northbound I-79 may want to consider using I-376 (Parkway West) to I-279 (Parkway North) to avoid the detour route. More information is available on the PennDOT site, and I am sure that our local media will also have information available.

July 4th is a fun day of celebration for us, but for our pets, it can be a scary experience that can put them at risk. July 5 is one of the busiest days of the year at animal shelters helping dogs that fled the night before. Families often find themselves searching the streets and shelters for their four-legged family member who was scared by fireworks, jumped a high fence or broke free from a leash or chain.

Tips for providing a safe Holiday for your Canine Household:
1. Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise earlier in the day.
2. Keep your dogs inside during fireworks, preferably with human companionship. If it’s hot, air conditioning will help. Bringing your dogs to a fireworks display is never a good idea.
3. Provide a safe place inside for your dogs to retreat. When scared of sounds they can’t orient, dogs often prefer small enclosed areas. (I once had a dog who climbed in the bathtub during windstorms.) If your dog is comfortable in a crate, that is a good option.
4. If possible, keep the windows and curtains closed. Covering the crate or lowering the blinds can also be helpful. Removing visual stimulation can also help calm dogs.
5. Make sure all your dogs are wearing ID tags with a properly fitting collar. Dogs have been known to become Houdini around the 4th of July. PLEASE MICROCHIP YOUR PET AND MAKE SURE YOUR INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE.
6. Leave your dog something fun to do – like a frozen Kong filled with his favorite treats.

JOSEPH A. BONKOWSKI – JUNE 22, 2021

The Township of Robinson would like to express their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Joseph Bonkowski. Joe, a lifelong resident of Robinson, passed away this past Monday, June 22, 2021.

Joe spent 39 years with the Public Works Department in Robinson. From 1991 to 2018 he served as the Superintendent of Public Works. Joe took pride in everything he did, keeping the roads free of snow and the parks looking beautiful. You could always count on Joe! Joe was one of a kind, a guy who was always there when you needed him. Joe Bonkowski truly left his mark on the world and so much of it right here in Robinson Township.

Joe spent the last four years of his career working as a Supervisor in the Traffic Division of Allegheny County Public Works.

Robinson Township sends love and prayers to Joe’s family. He will be sorely missed.

With the approaching 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, Robinson Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 Station 244 have plans to “Pay it Forward”.

Plans are underway for a Duck Derby to raise funds For the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Robinson Twp. VFC #244 #1 experienced the loss of its station due to fire on June 15, 2015. The immense impact to our station family was tremendous. To our surprise the community, area businesses, and our fellow firefighters came through for us with their overwhelming support.

With the approaching 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, our members decided to pay it forward. We chose T-2-T, whom we consider to be the Phoenix that rose from the ashes of the towers.

WHY TUNNEL-2-TOWERS?
They honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country with smart homes or mortgage-free homes for those leaving behind young children. Please visit t2t.org.

WHY A DUCK DERBY?
We found a duck derby to be a natural fit for a station that houses one of the largest volunteer swift water rescue teams in PA. Our plan is to use the back channel of Neville Island between the I-79 and the Coraopolis bridges. The derby will be held on 9/11.

Robinson VFC thanks its partners in this effort; Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care for generously covering all of the cash prizes. Add-Vision who is providing advertising for the events we will attend, and Rep. Anita Astorino Kulik for covering our ticket expenses
PLEASE HELP US PAY IT FORWARD - THANK YOU, TOMMY SOMMA

Vitalant has an urgent need for blood, platelet or plasma donations to address a drop in donations and meet both emergency and routine patient needs.
• On average, donors give several thousand fewer donations during the summer compared to the rest of the year, but the need for lifesaving blood transfusions remains steady.
• Vitalant must collect about 5,300 blood, platelet and plasma donations every day for approximately 900 hospital partners and their patients coast-to-coast.
• All blood types are needed to ensure a safe and ready supply, especially type O blood. • Type O is the most transfused blood type and O-negative is what emergency room personnel reach for when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type.
• Type O donors can maximize their impact by giving a Power Red donation when two units of red cells are given, and other blood components are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.
• O Platelets are constantly needed because they must be transfused within five days of donation. Platelets are tiny cells in blood that form clots and stop bleeding. They are given to cancer patients, people with blood disorders, open-heart surgeries and organ transplants.
Because of you, life doesn’t stop.
Please Donate blood.

Clever Park Play Ground will be temporarily closed. We found it necessary to close for 2 days. Playground will reopening Thursday June 3rd. Landscape Structures will be onsite today to complete the surface work creating a smooth transition to the sidewalk. They tell us we need to allow at least additional 24 hours for the product to cure. We apologize for this temporary inconvenience. Playground will reopen Thursday June 3rd. (originally we believed a single day closure would be sufficient, however we found the surface needs to cure in order to insure the best outcome.)
