Allegheny County Council

Allegheny County Council Allegheny County Council is the legislative branch of the county government, consisting of fifteen elected officials serving four-year terms.

Thirteen members are elected by district and two elected county-wide, per the Allegheny County Home Rule Charter. Allegheny County Council is the legislative branch of Allegheny County government. The Council consists of 15 elected officials – 13 district representatives and two at-large members. These 15 members represent the constituency of the County and are each elected to a term of four years

. Powers and duties of the Council include among other responsibilities: annually adopting a balanced capital and operating budget for the County, permitting use of County land, and confirming or rejecting appointments for County agencies and authorities.

All Allegheny County administrative offices, including County Council, the Office of the County Executive, and the Courts will be closed to the public on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of the Juneteenth National Freedom Day holiday.

The county’s parks will be open, including its golf courses, spray parks, and pools, and all will be operating on a normal schedule all week, weather permitting.
