A heat advisory has been issued for Pittsfield from 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1 through 8 p.m., Friday, July 3. With extreme heat and humidity expected, and air temperature forecasted to remain above 90 degrees for the next several days, the Pittsfield Health Department shares the following heat safety reminders:
➡Avoid strenuous activity, stay hydrated and consume plenty of water.
➡Avoid sugary drinks, drinks with caffeine and alcohol.
➡Take precautions to prevent heat-related illness. Signs of illness include headache, nausea or vomiting dizziness and exhaustion as well as cool, moist, pale or flushed skin.
In addition, to help residents cope with climbing temperatures, misting stations will be available downtown at Persip Park (175 North Street) and near the Colonial Theatre (111 South Street).
The following places will be open for people to keep cool from the outdoor elements:
