The Human Resources Department completes and processes all required paperwork for new municipal employees and is the official custodian for all municipal personnel records. The department coordinates pre-employment physical examinations and post-employment fitness-for-duty evaluations with the City’s occupational health facility. All workers' compensation claims and injured-on-duty claims for poli

ce officers and fire fighters are administered by the Department. The department serves as a liaison with the City Physician for the ongoing evaluation of injured employees. The Department is also responsible for drafting and updating City personnel policies such as the Family Medical Leave Act Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy, Drug and Alcohol Policy for Employees Holding Commercial Drivers Licenses, Safety Policy, Seat Belt Policy, Affirmative Action Policy, and Internet Policy. In addition, the department is responsible for negotiating, drafting, and interpreting collective bargaining agreements for the following nine collective bargaining units (see each link below for the most current contract):

6) Pittsfield Police Patrol Officers, I.B.P.O., Local 447

7) Pittsfield Police Superior Officers, I.B.P.O., Local 447S

8) Pittsfield Supervisory and Professional Employees' Association Pittsfield

9) Pittsfield Traffic Supervisors' Association

The Human Resources Director serves as the coordinator for the Personnel Review Board. This board acts as an advisory board to the Mayor and City Council in connection with the creation of new positions and upgrades. The manager also serves as the ADA Coordinator for the City and facilitates resolutions to any complaints related to handicapped accessibility to City owned buildings and property.

Bertelli-Hunt was the first female detective in Pittsfield's history and was one of the first female police officers in the department.
