As staffing in todays fire service gets increasingly more difficult ( both volunteer and career) we have to evolve in using the numbers we have more efficiently & safely.
Recently our members trained in deploying the " blitzfire" mini gun with 2 - 3 Fire Fighters. Many times week day incidents may only have 2 or 3 members on arrival, with large volumes of fire this unit can be deployed & knock down fire or protect exposures until reinforcements arrive!

Its September 1st...& whether we like it or not ...this means Summer is pretty much over & time to think about Fall!
For us here at PFD that means one thing.....its HAUNTED HOUSE TIME!
Going WAY back to 1984 the Pittsford Fire Department started its annual Haunted House! What is now a fall ritual for so many.....made possible by endless number of volunteer hours from PFD members, their families & so many others from neighboring agencies & community members! This has helped raise HUNDREDS of Thousands of Dollars to better equip & train your local Volunteers who are out day & night to protect your community!
Stay tuned for upcoming info on raffle tickets, chances to win a dinner & limo ride in the BOO MOBILE, as well as other ghoulish stuff!
A HUGE THANK YOU to all that have joined us, helped us in volunteering time as well as goods and services to make it all possible!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT and MEDIA RELEASE

At approximately 8:50 this morning, we were dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident on Route 7 just south of Parker Rd. Upon arrival, it was determined that a small SUV and a dump truck had collided with one another and there was significant damage to both vehicles. Due to the location of the accident, the manner in which the vehicles came to rest following the accident and the extensive debris field, Route 7 was shut down for approximately 90 minutes and detours set up while the incident was handled. Both operators were evaluated by EMS with one being transported to RRMC for treatment. We would like to thank Pittsford -VT First Response Squad, Regional Ambulance Service, Inc. , Pittsford Police Department, Central Vermont Truck Repair, and Carrara Services for their assistance.

We do have to address an issue that is becoming more and more of an issue for us when we are operating at the scene of motor vehicle accidents. First and foremost we thank those of you in the motoring public that follow our directions and proceed through or around scenes in a safe manner as it allows us to operate safely and without having to be overly concerned that something will happen.

However we are having more and more issues with people either going through our scenes at a rate of speed that is not safe given the circumstances, are watching the scene more than the road, and in some cases completely ignoring those that are directing traffic and going around them which has resulted in them nearly being hit on multiple occasions, or getting impatient and pulling out of stopped traffic and proceeding through the scene when the road is still closed, much in the manner at the accident today when after repositioning trucks a vehicle pulled out of line, proceeding past the first part of the scene all while the heavy duty wrecker was hooking up the dump truck. Fortunately Pittsford Police were at that end of the scene and had a lengthy discussion with the driver and they left with some additional paperwork.

With that being said, when we close down a road, especially Route 7 we don't make the decision lightly as we know it has significant impacts to many things and we do our best to minimize the time the road is closed. We do this so the people involved in the accident are kept safe as well as the responders who are there to mitigate the situation and the wrecker operators when they come to remove the vehicles. So if you happen to come upon an accident we are working at, please be patient as we are working as quickly as possible with our partner agencies to get the road open, and if it is an extended closure, follow the detours or if you're stuck in traffic, carefully turn around and find an alternate route.

Motor vehicle accidents, Wildland fires, structure fires & mutual aid calls make up the bulk of our emergency calls. But we also assist other agencies such as Pittsford First Response, Regional Ambulance Service & the multiple Air Medivac services that are in our region.

Funeral arrangements for Firefighter David Foley are as follows.
Calling hours Friday , August 21st from 4pm-6pm at Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
Funeral Service Saturday, August 22nd at 10am, Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church at the Jct's of US 7 & Arch St in Pittsford. Graveside ceremony following with reception at the Pittsford Fire station afterward.
Fire Fighters wishing to attend are asked to be at the Pittsford Fire station no later then 9am Saturday morning.

It is with deep sadness that the members of the Pittsford Fire Department & Nickwackett Hose Company announce the sudden passing of Firefighter David Foley.
" Dave " was a 41 yr member of the Department, as well his Brother Bob, Son Captain Shawn Hendee, Son-in-Law Firefighter Dave Larson, Grandson Fire Cadet Justin Hendee and Granddaughter Fire Cadet Michelle Hendee.
Please keep the Foley family in your prayers, funeral arrangements will be announced once details are arranged.

What is "Mutual Aid" & why is it so important?
As volunteer numbers dwindle across the country, it becomes vitally important to have good working relationships with neighboring Departments. Week day , day time numbers are critically low in many communities & early use of the Mutual Aid units a must in having a good out come in an incident as we know minutes count!
We here in Pittsford have a great working relationship with Proctor, Brandon,Chittenden, Rutland Town & many other departments in Rutland & Addison County.
Here in the first group of photos are members working at an afternoon structure fire in Proctor that had a good outcome due to early Mutual Aid request.
The second group of Photos is a large Scale Mutual Aid water supply training hosted in Killington that over a dozen departments attended including members from Pittsford.
