Yesterday, the volunteers of the Pittsford Fire Department responded to more than 30 emergency calls during the high winds and we continue to have more calls today. Most incidents involved downed trees and live wires and trees falling on structures.
We understand that many residents are still experiencing power outages. As utility crews work to restore service, please keep the following critical safety measures in mind:
Downed Wires: Stay far away from fallen lines. Always assume they are live and highly dangerous. Never touch a wire or anything touching it, including trees, fences, and vehicles. If you see downed wires taped off with yellow caution tape, emergency services are aware of it and it has been reported to the utilities.
Generator Placement: Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, or any partially enclosed space. Keep portable generators outdoors, far from windows, doors, and vents.
Generator Hookup: Ensure your equipment is properly connected to prevent electrical hazards.
CO Alarms: Verify that you have functioning carbon monoxide detectors installed on every level of your home.

What a fantastic weekend of community events! It is always an absolute honor to es**rt our Section V Champions back home. Additionally, members participated in the Town of Pittsford’s annual “Meet the Machines”event. This gathering remains a highlight for our department, offering a wonderful opportunity to interact with residents and share our equipment with local families.

The Pittsford Fire Department wishes our community a meaningful Memorial Day. Today, our members join with residents to pay tribute to the military heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. We will honor those who have sacrificed their lives in pursuit of freedom for our nation. Our department will participate in the traditional Memorial Day Parade and gather at the cemetery for a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony. This enduring tradition honors all veterans and remembers our own dedicated members who gave their lives in service. Their dedication, courage, and selflessness should never be forgotten.

Time Honored Tradition
Respect for our past is a cornerstone of the fire service. This week, in honor of Memorial Day, members of the Pittsford Fire Department upheld a department tradition: honoring the memory of our deceased members. By checking markers and placing flags at their resting places, we ensure their legacy of service lives on.

Today, Pittsford Fire Department welcomed special little guests from Christ Clarion Community Preschool! Early childhood is the ideal time to introduce foundational life safety skills. The students practiced EDITH (exit drills in the home) and learned all about smoke alarms, mastered who to call during an emergency and bonded with local firefighter friends. We absolutely loved having this wonderful group visit our station and the department extends its gratitude to the preschool for participating in this valuable community outreach.
