Sam Patch Tour Boat

Sam Patch Tour Boat Corn Hill Navigation, the operator of the Sam Patch is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Sam Patch is a replica 19th-century packet boat offering historical, educational, and entertaining cruises on the Erie Canal from Schoen Place in the Village of Pittsford. Your ticket purchases enable us to contribute to the economic revitalization of the Rochester region, fostering the growth of tourism here and educating tens of thousands of area school children who study the Erie Canal and hist

ory of Rochester. Proceeds from our public cruises also support the care and maintenance of our vessel, making it possible to extend our reach to tourists, area residents, individuals with special needs and students, many of whom are underserved. For many of our passengers, our cruises provide the only opportunity to enjoy first hand the experience of the history, science economic importance and simple delight or our legendary waterways.

Our story began in 1991.

What started as Corn Hill Navigation grew into a nonprofit dedicated to connecting people with Rochester’s waterways through cruises, education, and shared experiences.

Today, that journey continues as Rochester By Water.

Why Rochester By Water?

Rochester is a city shaped by water.

The Genesee River powered early industry.
The Erie Canal connected Rochester to the world.

Together, these waterways helped define our city’s identity, economy, and culture.

As our programs expanded beyond Corn Hill and our audience continued to grow, we wanted a name that:
• Clearly connects our work to Rochester
• Reflects all the waterways we serve
• Invites people to see our community from a fresh perspective

Rochester By Water is an open invitation — to explore, learn, celebrate, and connect through the waterways that made Rochester what it is today.

Why did we rebrand?

For more than 30 years, our organization has helped people experience Rochester from a different perspective — from the water.

We began in 1991 as Corn Hill Navigation, offering educational and historic cruises along the Erie Canal and Genesee River. Over time, our boats became moving classrooms, floating front porches, and gathering places for residents, visitors, students, and families from around the world.

As we’ve grown, one thing became clear: our name no longer told the full story of who we are — or where we are.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce our new name: Rochester By Water.
