Jenkins Township is a community of about 4,400 people nestled in the Wyoming Valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania near the Susquehanna River and Interstate 81. Our safe and affordable neighborhoods include Inkerman, Old Boston, Port Blanchard, Port Griffith, and Sebastopol. Willow View, Wyndtree Oaks, Heather Highlands, Westminster, and Shantytown. Our community is 13.9 square miles and is located

within the Pittston Area School District. The township is administered by a three-person board of supervisors and is served by dedicated police, fire, ambulance, and Public Woks Departments. Housing is available in a wide variety of styles and price ranges. Older single family homes in good condition can be found for between $90,000 and $200,000. Newer three and four bedroom rooms are typically priced between $200,000 and $400,000 while larger, executive-style homes begin at $400,000. New two and three bedroom townhomes are priced between $200,000 and $300,000. Annual real estate taxes are much lower than most east coast communities. Jenkins Township is home to many excellent restaurants and retailers. Many excellent hunting and fishing areas are nearby. Youth sports leagues are available in baseball,ie.. Jenkins Township Little League, basketball, football, soccer ie..Stoners Soccer, and ice hockey. Also their are different clubs which our community supports, The Jenkins Township Lions Club which helps our community with different causes such as White Cane,and a scholarship program for our young people. Our Senior Citizens Club meets the second Tuesday of the month. Both are always welcoming new members. In addition to being home to many great amenities, Jenkins Township is within 15 minutes of many major attractions. These include:

Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza – This major arena is home to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and hosts major national performing artists. With more than 8,000 permanent seats and a capacity of nearly 10,000 for concerts, the arena has played host to some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Elton John, Cher, Neil Diamond, Janet Jackson, The Eagles, AC/DC and Simon & Garfunkel. PNC Field – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees – The AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees, play 72 home games in this Montage Mountain stadium. Sno Mountain Ski Area – Enjoy excellent downhill skiing and snow tubing every winter from December into March at this Montage Mountain ski resort. Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs – 135 days of live harness racing, 2,500 slots, electronic Blackjack and Roulette tables and exceptional dining and performance venues make this $208 million complex one of the finest casinos on the east coast. Steamtown National Historic Site – Visit one of the world’s largest collections of steam locomotives and related memorabilia at this National Park Service managed attraction. Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain – Major national recording artists of all musical genres perform at this 16,000 capacity outdoor pavilion and amphitheater high atop Montage Mountain. The F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts – This beautiful, completely restored Art Deco theater has hosted a broad spectrum of attractions, ranging from grand opera to a cattle auction, from Broadway musicals to 18th Century dramas, from musicians to comedians, from ballet to acrobats, from magicians to ice skaters. Cinemark 20 and XD Theater Complex – This huge movie complex on Montage Mountain features stadium seating, ceiling to floor and wall to wall screens, and 3D technology. RC Theaters – This Downtown Wilkes-Barre movie complex features stadium seating, ceiling to floor and wall to wall screens, and 3D technology

Scranton Cultural Center – Originally built as the Masonic Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral, the Scranton Cultural Center is significant as an example of the work of Raymond M. Hood (1881-1934), a prominent architect of the 1920's and early 1930's. The Center has hosted performances by thousands of performers including Frank Sinatra, Yul Brenner in The King and I, George Carlin, NSync, Britney Spears, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, and Willie Nelson. The Center and the F.M. Kirby Center share the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra. Wyoming Valley Mall – Large suburban shopping mall near Wilkes-Barre. Shoppes at Montage – Lifestyles shopping center located on Montage Mountain. Mall at Steamtown – Enclosed shopping mall in Downtown Scranton.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Jenkins Township Zoning Hearing Board, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, will conduct a Public Hearing to hear comments on a proposed Zoning variance (setback), for 78 Thompson Street, Sebastopol, owned by J&R Trucking. The hearing is requested by New Cingular Wireless d/b/a AT&T Mobility.

The public hearing shall be conducted on Monday, November 17, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Jenkins Township Municipal Building, 46 ½ Main Street, Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania 18640-3103. The meeting will be livestreamed for public viewing on Facebook Live beginning at 6:00 p.m. Verbal testimony may be presented at the time of the Public Hearing. In addition, written comments may be delivered, emailed or mailed to the Municipal Building at the above listed address, or to [email protected]. Copies of all written comments received by the Township Office prior to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, shall be forwarded to the Zoning Officer and shall be made a part of the record for the Public Hearing.
A copy of the requested setback variance is available for review at the Municipal Building at the above address during Township business hours from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. A copy of the proposed variance may be viewed at no charge or copies may be secured at the cost of $.25 per page.
